Happy #worldarthritisday2018 day but I’m a day late because this was Yesterday!! This photo was taken yesterday when I was at Mount Siani for a routine CT scan. I had no idea it was also October 12th - World Arthritis Day!! I’m happy to say that I’m going on a year and a half of NO MEDS!! If you are just tuning in, I have a rare autoimmune condition that is classified under the Rheumatoid Arthritis umbrella. My condition manifests quite differently from RA and is closer cou...nterpart is Lupus (still quite different). Diagnosed at 22, I am at the 15.5 year mark of living with this. It took 14 years to get to the point where I had tried all the different traditional drugs, been in many studies... clearly none of it was working. December 2016 my disease was proving to be much more rampant than it had been in the past and I finally was sick enough to access Rituximab (Rituxan) a biologic infusion. This wouldn’t happen until later Feb/March - so lots of steroids and puffy moon face so I could still go to work and ‘live’. After the infusions I had to ween off prednisone and was finally med free by July 2017. Present day October 2018, I am still feeling great! No prednisone, no antibiotics, no immune- suppressing medications!!! But many questions remain: Will it come back? When will it come back? And, Can I ever stop wondering? For now, it’s important not to dwell on those, it’s not in our power to know the future or what is in store (also, all the ‘what-ifs’ will seriously drive me crazy).
