It was 20 years ago my Father went to Fort Langley to honour his fellow Veterans and there was no ceremony. Feeling very disappointed, making his passionate views known to the Mayor and others- he called Brenda Roberts from the Fort Art Gallery and the two of them held their own ceremony. From there, they formed a committee as my Father’s wishes were to make sure that Fort Langley never again misses holding a Remembrance day event. Each year it slowly grew to more people, the... Parade, the Flyover and is now a big event! For many many years my Father would go and clean the Cenataph with a toothbrush and arrange wreathes for the ceremony which has now grown to bring thousands of people! Both my Father (Gordon Gillard) and Brenda Alberts have passed on but I know they would both be so proud to see it continue to grow! Please come and support the Veterans tomorrow at Fort Langley. If you happen to have any Smelt, Herring, Salmon or Trout that you can spare, our bears would be most grateful! If anyone has honeycomb - that would be a treat for them too.
