I struggled to write this post. I have never been one to rock the boat. I have always been one of few words and hoped my actions would speak for themselves. But sometimes that's just not enough. I heard on the news today that the school board will now be introducing education on anti- Asian racism to combat the increase of incidents since this pandemic started. Part of me was hopeful but the other part of me is angry. Why did it take almost a year to address this issue?! For ...those of us that have experienced this form of racism all our lives, this is not new but it is different. I feel it. I've experienced it. It's not just ignorance. It's hatred. If you think it's not happening in Canada and that it's not happening in your neighborhood you are very wrong. I experience blatant anti- Asian racism just blocks from my house and I am ashamed to say I did nothing. I kept my head down and cried. I was frozen in sadness, anger and fear. I was transported back to when I was little and being followed home by kids taunting me with racial insults. I still feel shame. How do you communicate over 40 years of hurt, anger and sadness in a social media post? You just can't. But I can't be silent any longer either. I can't express how confusing and hurtful it is to be considered desirable and attractive based on your race but also on the flip side of that same coin to be consider dirty and disgusting all based on your race.I have lived with it all my life from family, classmates, co-workers, people I thought were my friends, clients and complete strangers. I've taken it all. I've turned the other cheek. But it's not ok. It's never been ok. I'm finally ok with saying this. I feel like I should be very clear. I'm not white I'm not white washed there are all kinds of asians and oriental is not one of them I'm biracial, I'm not confused you can't pick and choose what part of my race you feel comfortable with and ignore everything else And last but not least, you are a special kind of racist (in my opinion one of the worst kind) if you say something ignorant and hateful to me and follow it up with " oh but not you" (Continued in comments....) A great cause so dear to my heart

What's the word for 2021? What is a word of the year? It is a goal condensed to its simplest form. It's a word you pick to set your intentions for the upcoming year. One word is very simple to remember and it can help guide and navigate you throughout the year to achieve and attract what you most desire. Resolutions are fine but I invite you to dive deeper into the WHY of the goals you are setting for yourself. Maybe your goal is to save more money? Why? Do you want to invit...e more security into your life? Maybe you want to excercise more? But your why is because you crave more play in your daily routine. Maybe you want to lose weight (which I dont think you do, because you are fierce just the way you are) Do you want to embody more confidence? Do you want to focus on health? Your word of the year or your guiding word will help you make the decisions necessary to achieve your goals and leave behind what is no longer serving you. Here are some things to consider when choosing your word: 1. Reflect about the past year and what kinds of things you want to achieve or attract in your life. 2. Consider what parts of your mindset that you would like to improve on. 3. Focus on where you want to be 12 months from now. 4. Start making a potential list of words. Head over to pinterest for tons of inspiration. 5. Stop at the word that you feel most connected to and keeps repeating for you. That's your word. Write it down. Everyday! Chant it. Sing it. This is your mantra. I was struggling on my word this year but I opened my mind to all the signs and messages being sent to me and it became very clear. FOCUS. I welcome focus into every aspect of my life. 2020 was a year of feeling overwhelmed. In 2021 I will focus on what is important to me. I will focus on what makes me happy. Focus will keep my mind clear and allow me to not spend any time or energy on what no longer serves me. So focus my friends. What's the word for 2021? This year can and only be what YOU make it #wordoftheyear #focus #2021 #intentions #getit #livewellbehappy

It's official...the holiday season is OVER ( although I still have my tree up because it makes me happy) and maybe you are wondering ...what the heck do I do with these Christmas cards? Toss them? Recycle them? I am a huge fan of reusing them. It's quite simple really. Take a pair of scissors and chop chop. Keep the fancy sparkly fronts to use next year for gift tags #zerowaste #zerowasteliving #sustainableliving #sustainability #zerowastehome #zerowastetips #reuse

Oh 2020, you have been a slice Collectively I think we are all happy to say good-bye to this past year. But I also honestly think there was lots of good in 2020. Sure, I missed out on lots of things. It was hard. But we all do hard things don't we. I also learned lots of things. I said good-byes and hellos. I laughed and I cried. I danced. I was challenged and I overcame. I connected more and in new ways. So 2020 I have no hate for you but only gratitude. For you have made me stronger and I look forward to whatever 2021 may bring because i know without a doubt...i got this. Cheers friends #happynewyear #gratitude #grateful #goodbye2020 #hello2021

You are my lobster ! Yesterday we celebrated 5 yrs of marriage. 5 years of adventures, road trips and sunglasses and selfies. @hoppy.herbivore.brewing is my person. He makes me laugh every day. He supports every single one of my ideas no matter how out of the box they may be. He believes in me, especially when I don't. And I try my darndest to be there for him. What have you done for YOU lately? Yes you! We spend so much time giving to others, doing for others. Worrying if the cup is half full or half empty. Well my dear, if the cup is just plain empty you are drawing from an empty well and that is a road leading straight to disaster and sadness, anger, resentment and illness. As the kids are saying these days. You have to do you. What have I done for myself lately?... I have gifted myself Saturdays. As many as I want. When I was first hired fresh out of school it was mandatory to work Saturdays. I was the new kid on the block and you pay your dues. I missed Birthday parties and celebration all in the name of work. Almost 14 years later I was still working Saturdays because it became an expectation I put on myself. I did not want to disappoint. I started resenting it even though I was making the choice. So I made the decision to stop working every Saturday . I still work a Saturday here and there but on my terms . Because I want to not because I think I have to. The feeling of freedom is illuminating. I have gifted myself the time to sit and eat a cozy breakfast and stare out my window because that's what fills my cup. Sometimes we carry the weight of burdens and expectations that we alone place on ourselves. We worry so much about what people will think or not wanting to disappoint. Putting ourselves 2nd or maybe even 3rd, 5th, 10th on the list of priorities. Let it go. People will be disappointed. You can't control that. You can only control your actions and reactions. Sometimes you have to choose you. It's ok. It is necessary. If you truly want to serve others you have to serve yourself first. What can you let go of today to lessen your load? What can you do for you today? No matter how small, gift yourself something today. You don't need me to tell you that you deserve it. But in case you do...you deserve it. All of it. #weekendvibes #selfcare #selflove #holisticnutritionist #holistichealth #holistichealing #selflovetips #selfcareday #holisticlifestylecoach

Are you in it for the fame and fortune? I can say with my whole heart, without a doubt NO. Opening my inbox and finding this unexpected and much appreciated email gives me all the warm fuzzies. I have had a particularly difficult week and to say I needed a win would be an understatement. So to receive this kind of love is so appreciated. Because this is why I do what I do. This makes me happy. This is my joy.... To coach and guide clients to find the confidence to reach their goals. It gives me all the feels to know I make a difference in someone's life. To show them that what they think is impossible is indeed possible and all it takes is the desire to make a change. No matter how small. This client came to me with no intention of going fully plant-based but just wanted to add some whole foods to his diet. I completely supported this goal and we worked together to find a plan and meals that met their needs and goals. To know they made the transition because they enjoyed all the new foods and flavours is an exciting achievement. It was not at all expected but will definitely be celebrated. So for those of you who wonder why anyone would wander into the world of nutrition and coaching. This is why. This is the joy. The only muffin recipe you will need this Fall Have you been apple picking and don't know what to do with all your pickings? Do you have left over pumpkin puree from the huge holiday meal you didn't have to make? If the answer is YES I do! Then these muffins are for you. I grabbed this recipe from @frommybowl for Pumpkin Apple Muffins and they are a huge hit.... Big fan. The apple literally melts away as they bake and you get a perfectly seasonal treat that is perfect for breakfast or snack. I paired mine with a chai latte and it was heaven. Hope you had a great weekend and cheers to a short work week #vegan #plantbased #fallflavors #holisticnutritionist #holistichealth #holistichealing #wholefoods #glutenfree #muffins See more

What if today we were grateful for everything? - Charlie Brown I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanksgiving is a time of togetherness and gratitude. This year our celebrations look very different than ever before. But that doesn't mean that we can't still be grateful for all the good in our lives. It's all about having an attitude of gratitude. Today (and everyday) I am grateful for ... my family comes first. Always. Their love and support makes me who I am and allows me to do everything I do. my faithful sidekick Henry. He makes every day an adventure. (Disclaimer: he is part of my family but he deserves a special mention) my job. It is not easy and sometimes I struggle but I am blessed to have the opportunity to be employed and part of a community of health care providers warm cups of tea and good books crunchy leaves, hoodies and hikes in the woods my friend that make me laugh and let me cry my home. I am grateful for the roof that offers me warmth and protection fuzzy blankets and good movies my health.i value this now more than ever. especially in times like this food. Because I realize how incredibly blessed I am to feel secure there is always food in my fridge last but not least, I am grateful for gratitude. I am thankful that I have the ability to count my blessings and have the ability to share them with others. From my heart to yours I wish you a very thankful Thanksgiving day. Hoping you can take the time to be grateful not just for this day but for everything and everyone. #thanksgiving #bethankful #gratitude #happythanksgiving #attitudeofgratitude #thankful
