Kelly McLeod for Nihtat Gwich'in Council President 04.06.2021

It has be a wild week and such an eye opener to the challenges and struggles some of our membership face. A lot of great comments and feedback from membership to bring forward regardless of the election results. I am very thankful for all the feedback and support received. I am also very thankful for the feedback that was very to the point. Was great to get to meet a lot of people I have never met before and I’ve lived here my whole life. It was great for membership to be o...pen to talking and sharing their experiences for that I will always be grateful. Tomorrow is the big day if you haven’t voted yet please get out to vote. Let’s hope for higher numbers then the last election which was 65. Vahn Gwiinzii, What an awesome experience meeting people has been. Lots of great feedback, advice and concerns. Just a reminder to everyone advance polls are open now until Tuesday from 3-6pm at Teepee Apartments Elections office second floor. You can also request a time outside of that if you are unable to vote within that time at 678-2038 or [email protected] ... There is a mobile poll option available for people in isolation where the elections team will come bring you a ballot. The sooner the better you contact them to ensure they have you set up the better. Also on elections day March 3 if you hadn’t seen the post about the polling station change. Voting will now take place at the Rec Center between 9am-8pm Voting will not take place at Ingamo Hall anymore like previously mentioned. Have a good Sunday everyone.

Vahn Gwiinzii, Awesome last few days meeting people, hearing stories. Understanding what people expect from the Nihtat Gwichin Council and the President. It’s is very evident people have lost interest for a number of reasons, some haven’t voted in years and will continue to not vote until they see more positive things happening. ...Continue reading

Drin Gwiinzii, Hi everyone, just wanted to say how awesome it is reaching out to membership and hearing what everyone I’ve talked to so far has to say. It is clear people are very tired of hearing the same old same old and wanting things to change. A vote for me is a vote for change. Accountability, Honesty, Integrity and Respect ... I will not post about how I am going to make all sorts of changes and promises I cannot keep. Because at the end of the day I alone cannot make these changes. It takes memberships input and direction given to council and then from there we deliver on that direction. If we do not deliver on that direction it is memberships right to hold us accountable. Membership need to be given the opportunity to speak and that does not happen currently You should not be afraid to come to meetings and speak up for fear of being attacked or talked bad about to discredit you. Believe me it happens. What I will commit to is giving our people my best, working for you, membership. Being your voice when you need me to, giving you a voice!!!! And most of all listening to you. I was born and raised in Inuvik and I will most likely die here as we raise our two children, I used to swim in the puddles on the west end, play with boats in all the ditches we could and run around on the utilidors all over inuvik(until the town put up blocks and I was to short to get around them lol) For those that don’t know me personally please give me the opportunity and I will not fail you. A vote for me is a vote for you. Mahsi Ps sorry for all the late night posts I’m just trying to reach as many members in the short time before the election next week- March 3rd

Drin Gwiinzii, Nominations have officially closed and there is going to be an election!!!!! So good to see a lot of the younger generation stepping up wanting change. It is also nice to see some of the older generation wanting change as well. Looking forward to working with everyone who is elected if I am successful as well. Good luck everyone. ... I think it is a great message to all out there who have not been accountable in the past that is needs to stop and the people are here to hold you accountable. That is basis for me putting my name forward because I was tired of asking questions and never getting responses especially in the last 6 months. It got heated at times and just seemed like a never ending battle. Which it shouldn’t be that way, we should be looking out for the best interests of all out people all the time!!! I’m looking forward to the next days getting out to meet everyone as the Nihtat President position requires full commitment from the elected official. And I will start that process by making the commitment to meet with as much of the participants I can in the short time between now and the election. Mahsi and I look forward to hearing from everyone.

If you are considering to put your name forward I encourage you do so, our people need to get involved and hold our elected officials accountable, most of all hold ourselves accountable to the people we represent. ... Drin Gwiinzii Everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you who I am, where I come from and what I value and believe. Everyone has their own story to share and I hope to hear them in the coming days, months and years. I may sound like a broken record with my next message however, it’s so important that all eligible Nihtat Gwich’in Membership exercise their right to vote in the upcoming NGC election on March 3. Please!!!... With the last voter turnout, which had less than 20% eligible voters out, it is obvious there is a disconnect between Membership, Council and President. I hope to work with Membership and Council to connect us once again so that we hear what Membership wants from us and hold us accountable when we do not deliver. Remember to exercise your right and vote on March 3 .
