FINAL WEEK: Have you seen the disassembled kimono in 'From Geisha to Diva: The Kimono of Ichimaru'? Did you know... the unstitched kimono on display stretches out to 36 ft of material (typical adult-sized kimono) and is approximately 35 cm in width. AND... If you thought laundry day was difficult now... imagine having to take apart the seams of your clothing every time you wanted to hand wash it, and then drying it on bamboo stretchers, before re-sewing it back together (...x 100). This is all to preserve the beautiful bush clover pattern on soft blue silk crepe with gold embroidery. DON'T MISS your chance to see this exhibition before it is gone. 'From Geisha to Diva' ends this Sunday, October 11, 2020. Exhibition sponsor: Pushor Mitchell LLP

Interview with Melany Nugent-Noble about her art installation Nothing to be done. The work takes inspiration from the minimal stage set of Samuel Becketts play, Waiting for Godot. First performed in Paris in 1953, the play is about two characters Vladimir and Estragon who wait beneath a tree by a country road for Godot (who never arrives). Nugent-Nobles atmospheric installation, which is staged in the Gallerys outdoor courtyard space, is complete with a large replica... moon hanging low in the sky next to a Burr Oak tree (albeit this one with roots encased in resin). The artist hopes that the installation will be a refuge for the imagination a focal point for contemplation, where one has permission to let their mind wander towards adventure, possibility, and the unknown. Nothing to be done is on view until August 6, 2021. More info: https://kelownaartgallery.com/nothing-to-be-done

The exhibition explores how contemporary culture responds to notions of the body in a digital age where illusion, escape, and distraction are at the forefront of our collective consciousness. By utilizing new media technol...ogies in combination with traditional modes of craft, Doodys installations blur the boundaries between the real and the virtual, the tactile and the imaginary. Jorden Doody is an interdisciplinary artist who examines the transitional spaces between tangible material and digital media. She is based in Kelowna and is currently pursuing an MFA at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. @kelownaartgallery @jordenblue #artacrosscanada @ Kelowna Art Gallery
