We’re baaaaaaack!

Kelowna Orthodontics 02.09.2020

To our patients and families, Exciting news! As you may have already heard, dentists and dental specialists have been given the green light to return to work next week. Specific guidelines to keep us all safe during the Phase II reopening plan of this pandemic have now been set by the collaborative efforts of the provincial health officer, WorkSafeBC, BCCDC, and the College of Dental Surgeons of BC (CDSBC). Some of these changes will require your help, and we will have very s...pecific instructions sent to you prior to your next appointment. The most important of these is an initial screening questionnaire that will need to be completed before you enter. Starting early next week, our administrative teams will be working very hard on scheduling appointments for everyone so please be patient. This is a huge job and will take time. Thank you everyone. We are looking forward to seeing you all soon and continuing to create those beautiful and healthy smiles! Drs. Pollard, Stewart, Diaz

Although we haven’t been able to see any of our beloved patients and families for over a month, this has given us a prefect time to make some big changes to the office. We can’t wait to reopen and show them off! Take care everyone and stay healthy.

Dear patients and families, If you had an appointment scheduled at any of our three locations (Mission, Kelowna, or West Kelowna) between TODAY AND MAY 22nd, it has now been cancelled due to the COVID pandemic. Considering the huge volume of patients and appointments being cancelled, it would be next to impossible for us to reach all of you personally and find the ideal date and time to reschedule everyone....Continue reading

This is an unprecedented time for our world. Access to care is currently a bigger issue than it has ever been, even if temporarily. With dental offices closed... to non-essential care and restricted to emergency management, there is growing concern with families that are experiencing dental pain and waiting for care. Please know that you are not alone, your dental providers are there for you, and during these times of unrest and worry, please reach out. We can help settle your mind and answer questions about a healthy diet, snacks, tooth brushing, toothpastes, flossing, behaviour management for young children, dental disease progression, pain reacted to cavities, trauma, among other things. Oral health is so important, and although it can seem complex, sticking to the basics goes a long way. Brush in the morning (we have time now, no excuse!) and at night. Make sure for kids under 8 years old a parent is getting in there and making sure nothing is missed. Floss daily - where teeth are touching, toothbrush bristles cannot go. Floss is the only way to get the sticky plaque out from between teeth in these areas. Think of it this way: When you wake up in the morning and you have sweaters on your teeth, you feel the need to clean them, and it feels great! BUT, the spots between your teeth are wearing sweaters 24 HOURS PER DAY if you’re not flossing. Seriously. Don’t believe me? Try flossing, then smell the floss. Gross, I know, but case closed. Restrict your caloric intake to 5 x per day. Breakfast, healthy mid morning snack, lunch, healthy mid afternoon snack, dinner. That’s it. Drink what you want with meals, but water between. Stay hydrated. This will REDUCE YOUR RISK of cavity development and progression. Questions? Take 5 slow, deep breaths, as many times in a day as you think of it, Terry

Dear Patients and Families, We would like to advise you that for the foreseeable future, and according to our College's and government's guidelines, we will remain open to see our patients for emergency cases only. We have cancelled non-emergency appointments and will call each patient back to re-schedule once we have a timeline of when we will be able to re-open. With consideration that many of you are in active treatment and require regular monitoring/adjustment, we are hop...ing to continue your care very soon. When this is possible, please rest assure that we will use the utmost precautions to ensure everyone’s safety. For the health and well being of our staff that are on the front line and the patients we are still seeing, we will do our very best to triage these appointments and we will be carefully screening our patients for symptoms and potential exposure to COVID-19. Please feel free to reach out to us via email or phone if you have any questions or concerns about your treatment. We wish you good luck and good health during this time. Sincerely, Drs. Pollard, Diaz, Stewart and the Team at Kelowna Orthodontics
