Kelowna Skin Cancer 31.01.2021

How to spot BCC Check for BCC in areas that are most exposed to the sun, particularly the neck, ears, face, shoulders, chest, scalp, and back. (However, BCC can occur anywhere on the skin.) It can present in many different ways, such as the following:... An open sore that does not heal: The sore may bleed, crust or ooze. It might remain there for several weeks, or appear to be healing only to return again. An irritated area or reddish patch: It can develop on the chest, face, arms, legs and face. It may not cause any discomfort or can hurt, itch or crust. A shiny nodule or bump: It is clear or pearly in appearance. The color is usually white, red or pink, but can also be brown, black, or tan, particularly in people with darker skin tones. People often mistakenly consider it as a normal mole. A tiny pink growth: A dome-shaped lesion with rolled borders and central crusted depression that might develop small blood vessels on the surface over time. A scar-Like region: It is flat, waxy and yellow or white in color. The area on the skin may appear taut and shiny, usually with uneven borders. This warning sign may be indicative of an invasive type of BCC. . . . . . . . #basalcellcarcinoma #basalcell #skin #cancer #skincancer #skincancerawareness #skincancerprevention

Melanoma is considered dangerous as it can metastasize (spread to other body parts). If it manages to reach the dermis the layer beneath the epidermis the cancer easily spreads through lymph nodes and blood. It is therefore important to check the skin regularly so that melanomas can be found and removed early. . . . .... . . . . . #didyouknow #facts #melanoma #skincancer #skincancerawareness #skincancerprevention #kelowna #skin #cancer #mohssurgery #surgery See more

The first sign of a melanoma is often a new mole or a change in the appearance of an existing mole. The ABCDE method may help you determine whether an abnormal skin growth may be melanoma: A for Asymmetry- The mole has an irregular shape B for irregular, blurred or jagged borders C for color variation- The mole has uneven shading or dark spots ... D for Diameter larger than 6 mm E for Evolving, any change in size, shape, color, elevation, or another trait The only way to be sure if a mole is melanoma is to have it examined by a doctor. With early detection melanoma has a cure rate of over 95%. . . #melanoma #skincancer #skincancerawareness #skincancerprevention #signs #melanomasymptoms #melanomasigns
