Good Afternoon Ward 1 Please note, there is an upcoming Pre-application Consultation Virtual Meeting, on behalf of 284 Plains Road Development Inc. (Corley Developments Inc.) on April 26 at 7:00pm As per their announcement mailed out earlier this week: "Weston Consulting is hosting a virtual pre-application community meeting to discuss a proposal to redevelop the property located at 284 & 292 Plains Road East.... The proposed development would consist of a 9-storey residential building, containing 156 residential dwelling units, and 195 parking spaces. If 284 Plains Road Development Inc. chooses to pursue this redevelopment, it would require an amendment to the City of Burlington Official Plan and Zoning By-Law. The current Official Plan designation of the site is Urban Corridor, and the current Zoning is Residential Medium Density (RM1). No development applications have been submitted to the City of Burlington at this time, and the City has not made any decisions on this proposal. A Pre-Application Community meeting has been scheduled to discuss this potential redevelopment, so that the public can provide feedback to 284 Plains Road Development Inc. at this early stage. The Virtual Pre-Application Community Meeting will take place: Date: April 26, 2021 7:00 pm 9:00 pm Participate On-Line via Zoom: www.burlington.ca/284plains or https://zoom.us/j/91023630310 Participate by Telephone (audio only) Dial: +1 647 374 4685 Meeting ID: 910 2363 0310 During the meeting, City Planning Staff will provide an overview of the development application review process, as well as the planning policies in effect on site. Weston Consulting will provide an overview of the proposed development. There will be a question and answer session following the presentation to share your thoughts about the proposal. Ward 1 Councilor Kelvin Galbraith and Mayor Marianne Meed Ward may also be in attendance to hear your input. Residents can subscribe to this proposed development’s webpage at www.burlington.ca/284plains to receive any updates about this proposal. Comments and questions for Weston Consulting can be sent to the following address: Martin Quarcoopome Weston Consulting 201 Millway Avenue, Suite 201 [email protected] 905-738-8080 extension 266 After the application has been submitted to the City, notice will be sent to residents within 120 meters of the site, and details of the application will be publicly available at: www.burlington.ca/284plains. At that stage residents can provide comments and questions to City staff."

Good Morning Ward 1, and happy Spring Break to students and parents. I know many have been anxiously awaiting an update on renovations to Aldershot Pool. Renovations have now been completed, and the pool was refilled. We are now waiting on inspection by Halton Region, though their staff have been redeployed at the moment as they deal with COVID-19 related tasks. In order to save energy and money (around $10,000 a month in utilities) staff have scaled back operations of a...ll pumps, chemicals, HVAC and boilers. Once the call to reopen comes from the Province and Region, staff will work quickly to return all systems back to normal so there will be no further delay with the reopening. I along with many others look forward to celebrating and seeing the renovated facility firsthand! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our office at [email protected] #burlon See more

RBG is preparing for a controlled (prescribed) burn at Princess Point and at a site near the Arboretum in the Cootes Paradise Nature Sanctuary. The controlled b...urn will take place on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Favourable weather conditions will determine the timing of the burn. There will be no access to Princess Point Trail or the east end of the Anishinaabe waadiziwin Trail on the day of the burns and signage and staff will be located at entrances. Scorched earth will be present for a week or so after the burn so please stay out of the burn area to allow plants to regenerate and don’t worry, Princess Point will be thriving again in no time. Controlled burns are an effective management tool in the restoration and maintenance of tallgrass prairie and oak savannah habitats. Burning stimulates the growth of native prairie and savannah plants while suppressing undesirable plants such as non-native invasive species. For more information about the controlled burn and the importance of rare tallgrass prairie and oak savannah habitats visit rbg.ca/grasslandrestoration

Today I brought a motion forward that was supported unanimously at Halton Regional Council, to address the inadequacies in the business sector for closures and restrictions. Small businesses should have the same opportunities to operate as big box stores and have greater ability to adhere to public health measures. The motion reads as follows: HALTON REGION...Continue reading

Leaf Collection in Zone 3 is resuming today and will go into next week, weather permitting. Patience is appreciated as the leaves are wet and heavy, which means collecting them will take a little longer. Information on loose-leaf collection can be found at www.burlington.ca/leaf.
