Let's talk about ankle mobility! If you joined yesterday's webinar you may already know a little bit about the important role that the foot and ankle have in the proper functioning of the knee, hip, and lower back. (If you missed it let us know and we'll send you the link! ) This means that pain or discomfort in these joints during or after activity may be the result of an issue in the foot or ankle. Movement in the ankle is vital for everything from taking the stairs an...d driving a car to single leg squats and riding a bike. Give this exercise a try! BANDED KNEE-TO-WALL: Place a light-weight loop band around legs just beneath the ankle bone Position feet in a small lunge with the front foot slightly away from the wall Bend front leg bringing the knee to the wall while keeping the foot on the floor holding for 5 seconds Return to the starting position and repeat 2 sets of 10 reps. Challenge yourself by increasing the distance between your foot and the wall! This exercise may not be appropriate for everyone and is not intended to be specific medical advice. Make sure to speak with your physiotherapist if you are experiencing joint or muscle pain!
