#FlashbackFriday: Today we are thinking back to our last Gala, which was 2 years ago! Although this year looks a lot different, we are so excited to have our community join us virtually on May 1st for an event that will celebrate our unique and inspiring students. We have raised $82,485 for students with learning differences such as autism, anxiety, ADHD and dyslexia. During this time of uncertainty, our community of students and their families are in need of support now mor...e than ever. Help us reach our goal of raising $200,000 for the KGMS Bursary Fund, so we can ensure that all K-12 students continue to have access to our specialized program. If you would like to become a sponsor, or support our event, contact Kaila at [email protected], or visit this link: http://tinyurl.com/1fcnemfu Thank you!
Wise words from our KGMS staff! A reminder that tomorrow is a PD Day and students will not attend classes. Have a great weekend! ... #ThinkAboutThursday
Teamwork at KGMS: Our MAHS Entrepreneurship 10/11 students went above and beyond for our school community: they fixed up the drainage and replaced the bark mulch on our playground, and the final result looks great! They have now created their own company named ‘Maplewood Garden Gang’, a yard maintenance and landscaping business. They are offering their services to staff and families of KGMS. Take it from us: they get the job done!... Calling our KGMS community: If you have a project around your home that you would like them to help with, please contact [email protected]. Great job, team!
Rhythm & Running: Division 1 combined music class and some cardio outside this morning! We’re making good use of our outdoor space on this sunny day.
The countdown is on! On May 14th our staff and students will be participating in a school-wide event for the BMO Vancouver Marathon RUN4HOPE! Staff and students will walk/run between 2k - 5k that day with their cohorts. We also have members of our community registered to run an 8k, half-marathon or full marathon virtually as well! Our community is coming together to raise funds to ensure that K-12 students with learning differences continue to have access to our specialized ...program. This gives our students the opportunity to have fun, get outside and get moving with their cohort to raise funds to support their peers, and our community to support our school. There’s still time to register! If you would like to register and run for Team KGMS, or if you would like to support our runners with a donation, please visit: https://tinyurl.com/4yby55v5 And runners: don’t forget to stretch! #BMOVM #RunVan
Our Division 5 class is participating in The Equity Backpack project, a project created by Abbotsford teacher Nerlap Sidhu who sought to teach her students about equality, equity, inclusion, identity and anti-racism. Students are decorating their backpacks with pictures from their own history, and they will make promises to themselves and the world to help create more equity. This project honours students' personal histories and creates a discussion on how they see themselv...es in the world and their place in it. By the end of the project, students will have filled their backpack with different types of equity work, and this project will give students the tools and confidence in telling their own story, while feeling empathy for each other's stories.
