COVID-19 Update #3: IMPORTANT - PLEASE CIRCULATE TO ALL MIDWIFERY CLIENTS Dear Kenora Midwives families, The current pandemic situation is moving fast and midwives have been asked to reconfigure their services based on changing factors such as: spread of illness, midwife and health care system human health resources and the capacity/availability of hospital and laboratory systems. ... Our wonderful administrative staff, Sharron and Sandy, will be working remotely so there may be a delay in responding to voice messages left at the clinic number. We are also changing our antenatal visit schedule to the World Health Organization guideline for optimal antenatal care. This includes: One contact during the first trimester (up to 13 weeks) Two contacts during the second trimester (at 16-20 weeks; 28 weeks and possibly between 25-26 weeks if necessary) Five contacts during the third trimester: at 31-32 weeks; 34-36 weeks; 38 weeks; 40 weeks, 41 weeks As always your midwives will use their clinical judgment in determining if antenatal visits outside of or in addition to this schedule are necessary. Individualized care plans for may be necessary according to a client’s clinical circumstances but virtual visits are certainly an option. Topics to be covered in a virtual visit may include prenatal screening and/or ultrasound bookings, informed choice discussions, prescription orders and general questions related to pregnancy and birth. Please note, when you have an in-person visit scheduled we are shortening appointments in order to focus on physical assessments only. In order to maintain social distancing, you will also notice that chairs have been removed from our waiting area and we are asking that clients wait in their cars until their appointment begins. We are also asking clients to come to appointments without support people if possible, especially children. We will continue to provide the highest standard of care despite these challenging times. As always, we are available by phone at 468 8510 or for urgent matters, by pager. Take care of yourselves, keep isolating and hand-washing and know that we will continue to update you as the situation evolves. Bekkie and Kelly

Dear Kenora Midwives families, Read about how midwives, nurses and physicians working in maternity care are caring for families in the GTA! Midwives across the province are expecting an increased demand for home-based care. As always home-based care (home labour, birth, early discharge) is available and encouraged for those who are low risk and asymptomatic. We are holding a virtual Homebirth Information Session on Thursday April 2 at 6 pm. If you would like to join remotely, please call the clinic (486 8510) and ask to be added to the list. We will email you the details.
