Juggling school, relationships, and countless other commitments can be overwhelming at times, and it’s common for teens to feel stressed out. Mindfulness is tool that reconnects us to the present moment, creating space so we can better manage our stress and live our lives more fully. Research shows that 30 minutes of mindfulness a day can make a huge difference in our lives. We've partnered with FIREFLY - Physical, Emotional, Developmental & Community Services and will be offering a Mindfulness Group! Check out the details here! * Mindfulness is for everyone!

Wellness Wednesday CONTEST TIME: TRIPS For todays wellness Wednesday we are asking for people to post pictures and a brief write up about where you have gone and what you have learned from that place. With COVID it is recommended for people not to travel unless they need too. We thought this would be a great way of traveling without having to leave your house. The Contest will end on Wednesday September 23rd. There are some great prizes to be won, so please get your e...ntries in . Going on trips is one of the best ways to learn new things, experience new cultures or foods and a fun way to get exercise. Below are pictures from Drumheller, Alberta, Canada. The pictures include the Hoodoos, the worlds largest dinosaur, the Royal Tyrrell Museum, and Horsetheif canyon. Our backyard in Canada is so beautiful and we love taking advantage of being able to explore our great country. The scientific method at the Royal Tyrell Museum- When doing projects or looking for advice it is always important that you base your information on evidence. When looking for evidence you should always go to a trusted source. Ask questions, do research, test hypotheses, compile evidence, and do observations. Hoodoos- have soft rock/sandstone on the bottom and a harder rock on the top. The top protects the bottom from erosion but eventually they will erode so thin that theyll break, and the top will come crashing down. The ones in Drumheller stand 20 feet tall. Blackfoot and Cree traditions hold that these rocks are petrified giants who come alive at night to protect the land around them by hurling stones at intruders. Worlds Largest Dinosaur- It is 86 feet tall, has stairs in it that you can climb to the top, it is 4.5 times bigger than a real T-Rex would have been, its weight is 145,000 pounds and cost $1,065,000 to build. Royal Tyrrell Museum- has one of the worlds largest displays of real dinosaur bones and a great way to do some hands-on learning. Horsethief canyon- had some of the biggest fossil discoveries ever, was a hideout for outlaws and a great place to go for a hike, see nature and the canyons.

Boozhoo! On Monday we harvested wiike in Washagamis Bay! I grew up watching my Dad, Bruce Mendowegan, harvesting wiike every year, including other medicines li...ke sage, sweet grass, cedar, red and white willow, etc. I watched him pick, clean and prepare wiike, but never tried it myself until Monday. I am very happy I was able to experience this and that I can share some of the knowledge I have gained. Here is a video where I explain what to do once youve picked wiike, how to clean it and prep it to dry, so it is ready to use. Miigwetch!

CALLING FAMILY MEMBERS/CAREGIVERS of young people! We want to hear from you! Please take some time to fill out our family feedback survey to help inform services and programs for youth: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NBY68ZN... Since March 2020, the Youth Wellness Hub has been operating virtually, providing our core services over the phone and video, as well as an increased social media presence with online programs and activities. As Ontario enters stage 3, we are planning to re-open our doors to offer youth and families access to in-person services, in a safe and clean environment. We recognize the pandemic has been a difficult time for families, bringing about unique challenges. Because of this, we have created a short survey with the intention of better understanding the current needs of young people and their families. This will help to inform our planning and preparations for re-opening. Your thoughts are important not only for our staff, but for the families and young people accessing our services. A big thank you, in advance, for taking the time to advise on our communitys Youth Wellness Hub. We continue to work towards providing low-barrier, integrated youth services in a safe and comfortable environment, informed by local youth and families. Click here for the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NBY68ZN If you have any questions, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Our friends (KCA Youth Outreach workers) harvested Wiike and Sage. Wiike is a root and it can be harvested all year round. Wiike is found in marshy areas and it can be used for colds, keeps you strong, and some people drink it as a tea / chew it. It has been utilized across Turtle Island as a medicine for generations. Sage is one of the sacred medicines that is used for cleansing by smudging or drinking it in a tea. It can be harvested in Manitoba, and people tend to pick ...it during the summer months and somewhat into the fall season. Thank you to YOW Alannah for sharing with us all today #knowledgeispower #traditions #culture #medicines #kenorayouthwellnesshub #youthwellness @ Kenora, Ontario See more
