Halloween at Kensal Park! It's that SPOOKY time of year and let's have some fun! Students and teachers have been planning events for Hallowe'en. If students decide to dress up on October 30, options include black and orange, costumes or pajamas. Please remember that pretend weapons, scary costumes or scary masks are not permitted. The following rules have been established by our local Health Units: ... a) If you decide to send in treats, please ensure that they are nut free and individually packaged. Also, please make sure that they are sent to school by October 27 to allow for quarantine protocols. b) Covid masks must be worn and a costume mask does not substitute for a face mask. c) If your child does wear a costume, it must be worn to and from school to alleviate the need for changing. Instead of treats, we are asking that families consider making an on-line donation to our local food bank this year. Let's aim high. Thank you. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/930
Dear Families, As you may or may not be aware, the Holy Roller Memorial in Victoria Park is currently in a state of decay. There is a dedicated effort underway to restore this important piece of history. The Holy Roller is the only tank of the 1st Hussars and only one of two in the Canadian Army to have survived from D-Day, 6 June 1944 to VE Day, on May 8th of 1945. We are so lucky to have this important piece of history on display in our city. The preservation of this monu...ment is being administered through the 1st Hussars Cavalry Fund and is reliant on private donations. The plan is to have the memorial removed to a workshop, preserved, and then returned to Victoria Park in time for the 150th Anniversary of the 1st Hussars in 2022. This is important as we have students at Kensal Park who have family members among the ranks of the 1st Hussars. If your family is interested in donating to this project, please visit www.1hholyroller.ca
Today we honour all of the men and women who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for our freedom. KP students show their thanks through artwork!

October 21 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, a day in which we recognize and thank our many dedicated school bus drivers for getting our students safely to and from school each day. Un GROS merci!! School bus drivers are often the first and last smile that students see at the start and end of each school day. Caring and kind, school bus drivers are role models for the children on their routes and a voice of welcome to parents in our community. On School Bus Driver Appreciation Day and every day the families, staff, and students at Kensal Park extend a sincere thank you to its 13 school bus drivers for their service, support, and dedication, especially during these challenging times of school bus driver shortage. THANK YOU!!

Every year, Orange Shirt Day, Every Child Matters is held on September 30th. Kensal Park plans to recognize this important Nation-wide initiative to honour survivors and remember those who didn’t make it home, on or around this day. We are spending the next week to explore our history with cultural respect and an age-appropriate, trauma-sensitive approach. Sadly, one of our cardinals will be leaving our Kensal Park nest tomorrow. Mme Walker, secretary extraordinaire, will be leaving us to begin a new adventure as Administrative Secretary at Riverside P.S. Although we wish her well in her upcoming adventure, we will certainly miss here at KP. Known for the relationships she creates with the students and their families, for her sense of kindness and caring, and for her regard for safety and well-being, we will miss her very much. Best wishes at your new school, Mme Walker!
