Our government and dental regulatory board are working tirelessly to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia to ensure the safety of every person in our dental clinic. We are extremely fortunate at this time to have no community spread of this disease in the Atlantic provinces. We continue to follow strict guidelines and are pleased to be seeing so many of our wonderful patients. If you are concerned about a dental issue, please don’t delay seeking treatment. This pandemic continues to evolve and we may again be prevented from helping you if a second wave emerges in Nova Scotia. https://www.cda-adc.ca//stat/who_clarification/default.asp
We are doing our best to look after every person who needs us, but we must do it safely. Please reschedule if you are sick!
At Valley Smiles we are waiting to hear from the Nova Scotia Dental Association on what a reasonable surcharge for PPE will be. Keeping our patients and staff safe has been a costly endeavour, but one that will be worthwhile in the long run. Please know that we are working diligently to keep these costs low, as we understand that every penny counts during these difficult times.
Thank you to all of our amazing patients who have made our first 2 days back to work so wonderful! Just a reminder that we are only seeing people with emergencies until June 19th. If you have a checkup and cleaning booked, we will be contacting you to reschedule your appointment. You may also contact us at 902-681-1090 between 8:30-4:30 on weekdays.
We are checking our lists twice to be sure we are ready to welcome our patients back on Friday June 5th. We will have our Front Desk Team working on Wednesday June 3rd to call those of you who have had emergencies during our closure. The following list are details to help you ready for your appointment!... We have a pre-screening Health questionnaire that we will review with you on the phone and when you arrive at the clinic for your appointment. We will ask that you arrive for your appointment 5 minutes early. Please wait in your car, but call us at 902-681-1090 to let us know you have arrived. We would appreciate it if you could wear a non-medical mask to your appointment. We are keeping our office colder than normal to accommodate the many layers of PPE our staff will be wearing. Please keep this in mind and dress for your appointment in a manner that will ensure your comfort. When we are ready for you, we will let you know by either calling you or coming out to wave you in. Please use the hand sanitizer to your left as you enter the first door. We will take your temperature on your arrival at the office via contactless thermometer. We ask that you come to your appointment alone. If you require a caregiver, one support person will be permitted to accompany you but will also be subject to our screening measures. We will have you rinse with a diluted peroxide rinse prior to treatment. The type of treatment you require will determine the level of personal protection equipment we will wear. Please know we are happy to see you and smiling beneath our layers! We appreciate payments via debit and credit when possible. With all of these new procedures for you, please know that there are many more that we are implementing behind the scenes. The good news is that Dentistry has ALWAYS had extremely high standards for disinfection and sterilization. We already know how to keep you safe, because we’ve been doing it for decades.
May 27th Update: This is the day we’ve been waiting for. Mr. McNeil and Dr. Strang have announced that dentistry will be permitted to reopen on Friday June 5th. We have yet to see our guidelines, but we have been working very diligently over the last 8 weeks to be prepared for this day. Once we have reviewed the guidelines and can ensure that we are able to open in a way that protects everyone involved, we will communicate with you here, and we will contact each patient who has had an emergency during our closure. As with every aspect of life, there will be changes to the way we are able to care for you. Please be patient with us as we work through our new procedures. We’ve missed seeing all of your smiles and we can’t wait to welcome you back!
March 31st, 2020 As of tonight, we will no longer be permitted to see any emergency patients in our office. The NS Government and the NS Dental Board have determined that the community spread of COVID-19 has increased the risk to both patients and practitioners. We will still be providing advice and arranging referrals to the Emergency Dental Treatment Centres as required. Please continue to call (902)681-1090 and listen to the message for instructions if you have questions and concerns. Drs. Waterbury, Dugas and Blenkhorn continue to have your best interest in mind. We will continue to be the link between our patients and the Emergency Centres. Stay safe!
