Happy Monday! Here is another one of our more recent hikes! Mount Rundle - Banff, Alberta Distance: ~11km round trip Summit: 2948m ... Time: 6 hours Rundle was TOUGH!! The first bit of the hike was a gradual climb through the trees but once we hit tree line it became a crazy scramble! Some parts of the trail had steep cliffs on both sides! While the view was breathtaking, I don’t think we’ve ever spent such little time at a summit before I would only recommend this trek if you are an experienced hiker and have the right gear! Check out my blog for some past adventures kenziearoundtheworld.com
Hi everyone! Brett and I moved to Montreal and I have started dental school! I thought I would share some of our previous hikes that you might want to add to your bucket list! Here are some photos from Crowsnest Mountain in Alberta which we completed last year - a tough hike with a tricky gully but incredible views! Crowsnest Mountain Distance: ~12km (out and back) Time: 6 hours & 43 minutes (with a very long break) ... Summit: 2785m (9138ft) It was a very windy day (which is obvious in some of the photos)! At the summit it was quite cloudy but we were patient and thankfully the clouds passed!
9 Day Hike in Peru WITHOUT a guide!! Adventuring friends Time to plan your next bucket list hiking adventure! Cordillera Huayhuash Circuit is a world-class trek in the Peruvian Andes! Brett and I completed this 112km trek in 9 days WITHOUT a guide! In this blog, we explain exactly how this is possible. Trust me, you will not want to miss out on these magical views!
Salkantay Trek DAY 4 16km, 7hrs & 3mins I’m glad we decided to hike a few extra kilometres the day before since it poured rain almost the entire day! We started hiking at 8:30 - much later than we usually do. After about 20 minutes, we reached the Llactapata Ruins. This Inca city is still being uncovered! The next 2.5km were downhill and quite slippery due to the rain. The rest of the trek today was pretty flat. Around 11:30 we reached Hidroelectrica where we had lunch. We spent the next several hours hiking along the train tracks. We didn’t reach Aguas Calientes until 3:45! This was much later than expected but we took many breaks to get out of the rain. We found a hostel for the night where we could dry some of our things and deal with our blisters!!
Salkantay Trek DAY 3 23km, 9hrs & 20mins For the majority of the day, I felt like we were hiking through the jungle! We started hiking at 6:50am after a great sleep! The first 16km were pretty enjoyable. The trail was not too steep and we walked through a few different fruit plantations! We reached Lucmabama at 1:00pm. Most people stop here for the night but we were still feeling pretty good and decided to push another STEEP 7km. We stopped along the way at a coffee plantations and drank way too much delicious coffee! At 4:10 we reached Llactapata Mirador and had the whole campsite to ourselves! We enjoyed our first magical view of Machu Picchu way in the distance
Salkantay Trek DAY 2 22km, 9hrs & 10mins After a tough 7.5km we reached the highest point of the entire trek at 4630m - Salkantay Pass. We enjoyed the view of the mountain range surrounding us. The landscape on either side of the mountain seemed to be so different. It went from dry and barren to suddenly green and lush! At one point we were going through the clouds! We reached the small village of Chaullay at 4:10pm after hiking a hot and dusty 14.5 km down! An old lady approached us & offered to let us camp on her land for only 5 Sol ($1.50)!
Salkantay Trek DAY 1 19km, 6hrs & 50mins We woke up bright and early to check out of our hostel at 3am in order to catch the 3:45am bus from Cusco to Mollepata. After a bumpy 2 and a half hours, we were dropped off in the middle of this small town. We started our trek at 6:50am! The first 10.5km of the day was definitely the hardest as the trail was VERY uphill and the sun was HOT! We reached Chinchikuma viewpoint @ 3813m around 11am. The last 8.5km was flat or downhill and much easier! We arrived at Soraypampa Campsite at 1:40pm and enjoyed relaxing and watching llamas run by for the rest of the afternoon.
Salkantay Trek + Machu Picchu Brett and I completed this 5 day trek (4 days of Salkantay and one day to & from Machu Picchu) hiking a total of 101.5km completely solo! The days were long & our packs were heavy but the views, memories, laughs, llamas, and Machu Picchu made it completely worth it! I will post a few photos from each day & some highlights 1st campsite: Soraypampa 2nd campsite: Chaullay 3rd campsite: Llactapata Mirador 4th night: Hostel in Aguas Calientes due to the never ending rain!!
