Today’s feature artist is Janine Shipman of the Plenty Artistry Club: I am a retired teacher from the Plenty area, cattle farmer’s wife, mother of 4 supportive sons, grandmother of 7 beautiful children, avid gardener and canner/preserver, quilter and crafter, pianist, and part time employee. With retirement came different avenues to explore, and one of them became painting with Kathy’s paint group. Painting may not be one of my strengths but it is one providing pleasant experiences with satisfying results.

Introducing the first artist (and teacher) of the Plenty Artistry Club, Kathy Richards. A few words from Kathy: I grew up on a farm south of Regina near Avonlea. I attended the University of Regina and got my B. Ed. I came to teach in Plenty and ended up marrying and raising a family here. As far as I can remember I have loved to make art - drawing on flyers, envelopes and even the basement wall as a young child. This passion stayed with me throughout my life. I enjoy painting and trying different mediums. I think that the process of creating art is more important than the finished product. It is the experience and the process that you go through that is important. It was not always so but a wise friend once told me not every piece has to be a masterpiece. Words to live by.

The show by Plenty Artistry Club is open! Stop in and check out the great selection of work these ladies have produced. Here is a short clip with Kathy Richards giving a bit of background information on their show titled Creative Celebration. It is a wonderful testimonial to the talent, creativity and support found in a small community. Keep it up, ladies!

Inspired by the work and adventurous spirit of the early Canadian painters the Men Who Paint began painting together in 2007. Their preference for painting outside brings a feeling of urgency and excitment to their landscapes. The combined artistic experience of the group offers a unique diversity and their collective dynamic thrives on each individual's passion for finding expression through interpretation of not only their Saskatchewan home but landscapes across Canada.

Kerrobert's 100-year-old cultural centre has a spooky reputation. It used to be the community's court house, and strange things have been happening there, espec...ially at night, for a long time. CBC's Samanda Brace looked into the paranormal activity that has been reported there over the years.
