Twelve. I love this age. I have a 12yo myself, so that could be a tiny reason why. There’s something about this threshold between childhood and young adult-ness. The only place where deep conversations about world issues can dissolve into a puddle of silliness over a turn of phrase or a joke they didn’t "get" only a year ago. It is an age that balances the seriousness of finding out one has a place in the world and having to figure out where one fits within it with an a...bsence of the self-consciousness that plagues most adults. It is still being excited about Hallowe’en, but knowing that you might not be so into it next year.
