We wrapped up our Lucknow job today just in time for our awesome clients to get the turkey in the oven! Here’s a little sneak peak of the main kitchen area. Also like to extend a big happy birthday and a welcome to another new employee Niall @nmburyk Niall’s come on just in time for a last minute boost to meet some deadlines and is bringing a lot of experience with him. Part of the reason we’re a small company is because we believe we can deliver a more intimate project experience to our clients when there’s not as much going on, but with some new opportunities and not enough time we decided to expand. At 6 total employees now (lol) we can take on some new exciting projects, but most importantly we will still have the time to take care of our current clients who have treated us so well. As we begin to near completion on our 2020 projects part of the focus starts to turn to next year. We began demo on this ICF house in herring cove last week. As you can see the current layout is pretty whack, but @cabin_couture has worked her magic and brought to life the potential of this seaside home. Opening up this floor layout is one of the bigger challenges on this project, along with navigating those pesky Hydronic heating manifolds that happen to land right in the center of future open space. We’d like to introduce everyone to the newest kestrel member this morning. Corinna, who some of you may know as @tinymayfly just joined the crew and we are excited! Having already fulfilled many carpenters dreams of building her own tiny home, she’s decided to bring her skills and positive building attitude over to our humble operation. Not that we’re a bunch of rough and tough trades guys or anything but it is nice to finally have a woman on our team and bring in a fresh perspective. Corrina will be a good fit and we’re excited about the passion and attention to detail she’s bringing. Good milestone today on our Lucknow project with @habitstudio. We got our @warmboard down so we can really get going with the fun stuff! A little bit of a learning curve but warmboard was great to deal with and the design they sent us worked out well. We chose this system because it is really perfect for a retrofit and seems to offer the best quality of comfort for our specific site conditions. Better heat transfers and more efficient use of water lines should keep the toes warm throughout winter. What it’s all about for the next couple days. Given the conditions we have on our site we opted to go with the @warmboard hydronic system to heat the floors on our Lucknow Reno. Basic idea is the aluminum on top transfers the heat more efficiently so your heat is instant and evenly dispersed. On top of that they literally plan the entire system for you which is definitely handy. Still waiting on 2 panes of glass for this deck we recently finished but we are happy with the outcome. A bump out for a laundry line was an essential part of the design and the stairs being on the same plane as the rest of the deck was a nice touch. Material wise we kept it relatively budget friendly but still implemented all of our water shedding techniques to ensure that when maintenance needs to be done, it’s only the decking that needs replacing and not the entire deck. We’ve been trying to figure out a way to give back over the last couple months and specifically wanted to show our support for the #blacklivesmatter movement. We talked to a couple of people trying to find a suitable group to work with but @big_country_al finally managed to track down Eddie Carvery (no easy task) and get to talking about what he needed. He’s been protesting at his site for almost 50 years and was in need of a new stage. So last Friday we got together and bou...ght some materials and built him a modular deck that was easy to take apart and put back together so it could travel with him. Very humbling experience for everyone involved. Not everyone has money to donate but we certainly have labour. Huge shoutout to @arknoallett and @smolyhoax for donating their time and positive attitudes to a great cause. The universal test to see if you did a good job framing the deck. Skipped off one joist which was the highest one (9 3/8, a little big if you ask me), but we planed it down before we put our joist tape on. Railings go on tomorrow
