Today's the day! Join us at 2pm to hear Dr. Jane Jenkins present "It was a pitiful time": Lost Voices of Canada's 1918 Influenza Epidemic. Here is the Zoom link for today: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89971234589... About the presentation: In the early 1980s, amateur historian Eileen Pettigrew set out to describe what it was like in Canada during the 1918 influenza epidemic. She tracked down people who had been young nurses, labourers, students, mothers, and children when the influenza pandemic was erupting in cities, farms, and villages across Canada. Dozens of survivors shared their memories through hand-written accounts and interviews recorded on cassette tapes. Although Pettigrew’s research yielded a book, the audio interviews of survivors have not been readily available until now. In this talk, Dr. Jenkins will present some of the interviews, along with newspaper reports and other primary documents, to paint a picture of what life was like during the influenza epidemic of 1918.
