We often forget about the simple things until we are restricted- in life and in our ability to move our body! Yesterday chatted with someone in my apartment complex about ways to get stronger and more mobile to be able to get into the bathtub after rehabilitation of their knee. To the average person this may not cross your mind, if that is the case, it’s important to be mindful and add in the progressions so that you can be proactive with your body! Training knee ups, steps u...ps & progressing to army get ups will: Improve symmetry & balance (trains unilaterally- meaning each leg independently) Improve your mobility when you go through the ROM( range of motion) Knee ups & step ups at a lesser height creates minimal stress on the knee but still works quads, your stabilizers - higher step will work more hamstrings & glutes. Balance Years ago I struggled with balance so much that I tattooed it on my body. I strived to have a perfect balance . There is that word ... perfect. Not attainable. What I have since learned is that Balance is more like juggling. At times you will be focussing in on different aspects in your life and that’s okay but being mindful that if you don’t work on all areas of your life they will lack and just like swinging kettlebells if you don’t use your skills you lose them. ...There is so much you can learn from your training and yourself. I would never sit here and write and say I’m perfectly balanced because perfect is no longer in my vocabulary as I work towards balance every day. I find peace in knowing I’m putting in the work to accomplish all different areas of my life. My biggest challenge was balancing my new business and being a mom as I used to be able to give my children all of my time as I stayed home. Today my special guest @roochhiee ! Often the hardest part of walking into a new studio is walking in because you are unsure of what you are getting into. I met Rochelle first through email then had the pleasure of meeting her in person as she came to watch a class. Then she came to train... not only was she learning for the first time but she had to deal with me making up signs to communicate to her that first class ! So we kind of got to teach each other and sometimes fumb...le through - but we do it together! She is incredible and I’m grateful she steps on the mats with me- she’s a hard worker , determined and great sense of humour! Today she takes us through basic steps for your Full Mobility Swing; Stand tall with your kettlebell in front of you Lean over and touch the handle of your kettlebell Grab the handle and stand tall (here you will squeeze your glutes - butt cheeks) Practise the swing motion with No kettlebell! Friday Warriors workout is for everyone! Read below and I will break down the complex here shown at the beginning for anyone just starting their journey. I have shown progressions but very important to not get overwhelmed by it if just starting - keep it simple . First Goal True High Pull (start here with working deadlift... upright rows then progress into True high pull - pull and push! ) Deadlift Mid Rack ( pull the kB up from handle to horns - the sides of the handle...)... you can practise this on its own- keep elbows in) 2 Guards (without or with rotation)- next level add in a wider Halo) Halo (practise these separate) Sometimes we will build into our complexes or just do 3 different exercises & train for a longer period of time! You will never know the strength within until you unlock it. To do this you will have to implement new patterns/behaviours . To relate it to training - it is the person who takes the step to walk into the studio or turns on the online training and makes that time for themselves verse being done work and sitting on the couch. They have to create the new habit to replace the old, it sounds like it’s simple- but simple is not easy. It will take more than 1 class! . . You may not... agree with me but I believe your self worth is woven deeply into your habits & patterns. Training is a way to unlock the key to many things. Loving your body to find out how to unlock they key is part of the big picture. Finding a balance within with give you great strength physically and mentally. I could have shared a photo from 8 years ago... I actually may have looked physically stronger but I was not mentally as strong. It is why KbkbCanada goal is to reflect Strong Body ~ Strong Mind.... when you find the strength within to reflect your outer strength then you will truly embrace Strength ! I waited till tonight to post this! We had a special night tonight for a special person who is spreading her wings and moving away to a new exciting place and job! I am so excited for her as I know she will have success wherever she is! Our hearts are full because we got to spend hours & hours sweating and swinging kettlebells with you! I wanted to post this today as I get people sending me different things to try, this was show initially from the floor so thought #kettlebells of course ... My goal on this is the hold at the end as I want to be able to do longer. I share this because we all have different goals different abilities but does not mean we can’t celebrate them all together! My dad thinks I’m crazy (good crazy though I’m sure ) T...he thing is I know is with practice, practice, practice and proper foundations your body can do many things! Working on variations of the leopard here today with Iva Geddes-mcnabb who is 73! I met and started training her 2 years ago at Daystar First Nations. She was feisty and determined- then her goal was how to do a jumping jack. During lockdown last year she wanted to learn how to do a kickout properly. We started working on her cross crawl patterns - where you train your opposite sides of your body to work together - we would lift as we showed here, left hand - right leg. The beauty that your body holds to simply move is incredible! I remember the first time I watched circus soleil , I walked back to my hotel room quietly. I was in awe of the capabilities of the human body. I know your level will be different from mine and mine will be different from the next trainer but the beauty within this is that our body is capable! It is simply what we ask of it and what we decide within what we want to do with it. The body and mind are incredible if ...you are willing to work on both. I used to dance, not professional lol but I was okay with my level but I know I could have been better but I never wanted in my mind and thinking back I can imagine the frustration my instructors may have had with me. Let’s get real today.... I want to ask you one question. What is one thing that you have done to better yourself in this past year??? With so much focus on Covid I am interested to know what you have done to better your health and your mindset. I asked my daughters this same question . The response was journaling and working out! ... Which was a response I loved... I am such a big believer in working on your physical and mental strength! I myself have been working on powering down for my mental health. & find even an hour off clears my mind! For my physical I have added in extra stretching as I think it’s one thing I can increase in my physical training. My wish for you is that you make time to make these changes so you can grow stronger inside & out! Have a great day! J.
