SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT ISSUED by Environment Canada! Damaging winds likely on Sunday! Damaging winds with gusts to 90 to 110 km/h are expected to develop Sun...day afternoon. Areas near the great lakes are more likely to experience winds at the higher end of this range. The strong winds will persist through Sunday night and gradually weaken on Monday. Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Power outages are also possible. Preparing for the predicted weather in the following ways can prevent potential damage: Pick up around your yard, securing & putting away any items outside which may become flying debris. If able to; inspect your roof for weaknesses. Place cars in garages or in places where they will be protected from flying debris. Shelter outdoor pets, or bring them under cover in a protected location. Check the trees on your property for loose branches. Be aware that there is a chance that your power might get knocked out. Keep an eye on the warnings and listen in to the local media for any further warnings or emergency information. Make sure your emergency supply kit is up to date. If power cables are brought down by high winds STAY AWAY from them. Do not touch any item that may be touching power lines. HIGH VOLTAGES KILL. Report downed or damaged power lines to your electricity provider.
