I often get asked how much one would need towards a down payment when buying a home. It all depends on the house you're looking for. Once you start working with a mortgage advisor, they will assess your situation and guide you on how much you can afford and how much you'll need to pay towards the down payment. For example. if you're purchasing a home under $500,000, you'll need at least 5% of the purchase price available, so that's $25,000.
