Progress on my animated short. For this scene I decided on a technique known as rotoscoping. I first recorded myself doing the actions I needed for the scene, brought the footage into photoshop and slowed the frame rate to 12 frames per second. Then, using a pen tablet, I traced over myself one frame at a time (7.5 seconds in this preview so about 90 frames). The next step was bringing the character animation into after effects to place it onto my animated background. For the... shadows, I duplicated the character, flipped it and warped it, added a levels adjustment to make it black, added a gaussian blur and finally added feathered masks so that the shadows only appeared on the ground where the purple light shines. I painted this alphabet piece last month. Challenged myself to get it done in a weekend but it ended up taking me an extra day.

World building for an animated short I'm making. I built this set with cinema 4d, painted it in photoshop, and then animated it with after effects. The next step is adding 2D animation to the scene by drawing it on frame by frame using photoshop. I will do my best to post more updates on the film and keep you all in the loop on my progress.
