If you have an Apple device and have not yet upgraded to IOS 9, well it is actually a good news for you. IOS 9 is experiencing a lot of issues and some are quite serious. i.e. bypassing your passcode and get access to your phone through Siri, totally freezing the device, or misc problems with App store, iTunes etc. Our recommendation is to always wait for a couple weeks at least when a new OS(PC or Apple) is released and give them enough time to work out all the bugs and compatibility issues. I waited for a few days before upgrading to IOS 9 myself and now it is saying I have 6000+ unread emails. Luckily I was able to fix it (pop server email account related issue) but for most of the none tech-savvy guys, you might have to live with those thousands of unread emails for quite a while.
