We will never tell you to stop doing what you love. We don’t tell you to stop moving and living once you get injured. Breaks from training are temporary and modifiable. Your pain does not define you, it doesn’t limit you, We hope to create a positive relationship with movement and help you recognize that hurt does not equal harm. ... The patient visualized above has had multiple knee surgeries, he is less than 4 months post knee replacement. Movements he thought were off limits were modified and he is now doing them and progressing well. Instead of demonizing certain movements we encouraged exercises that were within reach to work with him in achieving his goals Strength is never a weakness . . . . . #chiropractic #strength #rehab #kneesurgery #health #wellness #training #acupuncture #burlington #oakville #hamilton #fitness

At Kevlar, health is at the forefront of our priorities. We strongly believe that health embodies multiple principles, including physical fitness. With the current closure of most facilities it has made it difficult to workout without equipment or space to do so. As a result, we have posted a 4-day FREE workout plan that requires minimal to no equipment. The link can be found in our bio. ... We hope to inspire you, empower you and encourage you to move! The addition of resistance hip exercises resulted in greater improvements in patient-reported pain and function. Hislop AC, Collins NJ, Tucker K, Deasy M, Semciw AI. Does adding hip exercises to quadriceps exercises result in superior outcomes in pain, function and quality of life for people with knee osteoarthritis? A systematic review and meta-analysis. British Journal of Sports Medicine. 2020 Mar 1;54(5):263-71. Hearing that you have osteoarthritis or degenerative joint ...disease can be scary. However, they are actually very common conditions. If a health professional told you that you have a condition like this but did not give you any advice on what you can do for it, they did you a disservice. A systematic-review and meta-analysis by Hislop et al. (2020) looked at individuals with knee osteoarthritis and the effects of hip exercises in addition to quadricep exercises. They found that hip resistance exercises had a great impact on pain, function and quality of life. This is evidence that an osteoarthritis diagnosis does not mean you are stuck on the couch forever. It also means that we need to be looking at the body as one connected kinetic chain rather than individual parts. The take-home message is if you have osteoarthritis of the knee, there are things you can be doing to help with it. Movement (resistance exercise) should likely be one of them. Movement is never a bad thing and strength is never a weakness. If you have shoulder pain and you like to work out, bench pressing may be the underlying cause. However, I am absolutely not saying to stop bench pressing. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. Perhaps you need to bench press more often and with better technique to get accustomed to performing the movement optimally. The bench press is glorified in our society and is often the benchmark (no pun intended) used by so many individuals when comparing strength. However, few peopl...e tap into their full potential for strength in the bench press because they do not focus on optimal performance of the movement. There are a handful of cues that you can utilize to help you get stronger in the bench press while reducing pain as well as general wear and tear on the body. Things like upper back strength, lat activation, grip width, elbow position, core stability and leg drive all have a huge impact. Squatting isn’t easy for everyone but everyone should do it as it is one of the most functional movements we use everyday. I used to watch videos and wonder ‘how the hell can they squat so much and do it effortlessly’ For some people squatting is going to be effortless, but for others, including myself it is not easy at all. Therefore I go through an internal checklist of things to maximize my potential to squat heavy. Here are some tips that I have found to be valuable. Neurofunctional acupuncture is one tool we use here at Kevlar Performance & Rehab. It is great for improving performance or helping modulate pain, here we used it for the latter. Here is a little clip of one of our treatments with a brief explanation. Here we had a patient with pain down the right posterolateral leg. It gets worse when laying on her side and is starting to limit hip mobility. Pain was reproduced with stretching of the piriformis. There was a moderate amount... of inflammation and trophic change in the low back, indicating a degree of chronicity to the issue. We utilized a couple autonomic regulatory points to have effect on the nervous system as a whole. We also utilized several segmental points in the lumbar and sacral regions corresponding with the levels of dysfunction. A couple points were used to stimulate both the superior and inferior gluteal nerves (to affect gluteus maximus and gluteus medius). One point was put in the piriformis to fatigue the muscle before doing some manual muscle work to it. A few other distal points were used in areas of muscular inhibition. The acupuncture was followed by manual muscle work, a chiropractic manipulation and some rehabilitative movements. . . . . . . #strength #performance #rehab #chiropractor #chiropractic #chiro #acupuncture #glutes #piriformis #exercise #fitness #wellness #health #movement #squat #gym #clinic #Burlington #Oakville #Hamilton #deadlift #pain

Do you have shoulder pain? Have you tried everything you’ve seen for shoulder problems, but it just isn’t helping? Well maybe that is because it is not actually a shoulder issue, but rather your bicep is the culprit. Your bicep has two heads a short head and a long head. While both heads work together, the short head is mainly responsible for flexion and supination of the forearm while the long head also plays a role in stabilization of the shoulder by depressing the h...umerus (arm) during shoulder flexion in order to increase subacromial space. If the bicep is dysfunctional, it can lead to decreased area of the subacromial space and subsequent impingement. For a complete explanation and some tips to correct this, click the link in bio for the full article. https://www.kevlarperformance.ca//proximal-bicep-tendinopa . . . . . . #strength #performance #rehab #chiropractor #chiropractic #chiro #acupuncture #biceps #tendinopathy #exercise #fitness #wellness #health #movement #squat #gym #clinic #Burlington #Oakville #Hamilton #bench #benchpress

Meet the team Hi! I’m Dr. Brock Novak, I am born and raised in Waterdown, ON. I went to Brock University where I completed my undergraduate studies in Kinesiology before going to New York Chiropractic College to complete my Doctorate in Chiropractic. My entire childhood can be summed up by one wordhockey. I grew up playing minor hockey in Flamborough and Hamilton before playing Junior A for the Burlington Cougars and eventually men’s hockey at Brock University. I have al...ways considered myself an athlete, and I still do. I may not play much hockey anymore, but I am always working to improve performance at whatever I am currently pursuing whether it is powerlifting, Olympic lifting, running or anything else. You don’t need to be a world class athlete in order to be an athlete, you just need a certain mindset and willingness to be the best you can be. That is what led me to where I am today. In the current system, I see a gap between healthcare and performance. I want to create a bridge between that gap. My vision is to help people recover from injury and improve performance all under the same roof. That is what led my partner and I to create Kevlar Performance & Rehab. Kevlar is strong and we hope to inspire you to be every kind of strong! . . . . . . #chiropractic #acupuncture #burlington #oakville #performance #strength #docswholift #fitness #workout #athlete #benchpress #hockey #sports #rehab See more

Meet the team Hello! My name is Kristina De Los Reyes, I was born and raised in Mississauga, ON. I did my undergraduate degree at Wilfrid Laurier in psychology, my post-graduate degree in Clinical Research at Humber college and my doctorate at New York Chiropractic college. I grew up swimming competitively and playing rugby for my undergrad and multiple clubs in the GTA. Unfortunately, in 2015 during a practice game I tore my ACL, MCL and both my menisci in one knee. At thi...s point I had never had a serious injury so I felt pretty defeated and emotionally loss. More so, I felt like I had lost my identity since being an athlete was my entire life. After a year of rehab and strengthening I returned to sport to unfortunately undergo another injury of fracturing my distal fibula. I felt emotionally exhausted, I was told a number of times to stop playing sports, to take a break etc. But being athletic is what I live for, its what makes me happy and human. Undergoing these injuries gave me greater insight and inspiration to understand the human body and what it is capable of. Amidst all my injuries I was also working as a clinical research associate for an anesthesiologist and orthopaedic surgeon. Day in and out I would see a number of patients come in suffering emotionally and physically from their injuries. I noticed that very few of them had resolution to their symptoms but only after coming in for multiple visits over several months. I recognized that there are flaws in the healthcare system and there needs to be some improvement. In addition, there needs to be an integration of multiple tools to help people heal. This is my story that has inspired me and my partner to create Kevlar Performance. Injuries are not only physical but affect you emotionally and mentally. I have an insatiable love for learning about the human body and my purpose is to guide you to strength, help you heal and work along side your goals. Strength is never a weakness and we hope to inspire you to be every kind of strong. . . . . . #chiropractor #acupuncture #strength #squat #pushup #burlington #hamilton #oakville #toronto #wellness #movement #fitness #docswholift #girlswholift
