Did You Know... that ginger is good for your gums? Ginger contains microelements that fight inflammation and harmful bacterias in your mouth. Also, this incredible root promotes healthy tissue growth and can reduce pain in toothaches. Moreover, according to some recent studies, ginger’s antibacterial properties can help kill bacterias that cause tooth decay. ... Remember, ginger won’t cure your toothache. Keystone Dental Centre has multiple safety measures to keep everyone safe at our clinic. We go above and beyond all of the Manitoba Dental Association and Government of Manitoba recommendations for our safety protocols in daily clinic operation. One of these safety protocols is that our staff is required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) at the clinic. Wearing PPE helps prevent any potential spread of COVID-19. Keystone Dental Centre provides our team with head cov...erings, face shields and water resistant, long-sleeved coverings. These items are reusable; after every patient they are replaced and disinfected. After your appointment, we dispose of our gloves and wipe down all surfaces with disinfectant. At your dental appointment, you’ll notice that everyone on the team is wearing PPE - from our amazing admin to your dentist. Depending on the procedure your dentist will be wearing a different type of mask. Feel free to ask them the difference between each type, they’ll be happy to answer any of your questions so that you feel comfortable and safe. Remember, wearing masks is mandatory in all public spaces, including when you come in for your dental appointment. Please wear it when you come to our clinic. If you don’t have one, we’ll provide you with a disposable mask. Check out our website to learn about our safety protocols and what to expect when you come for your dental appointment: https://www.keystonedentalcentre.ca/safetyprotocols

With the cold weather setting in, there is nothing cozier than getting under your favourite blanket and having a hot cup of tea. If you like green tea you’re in for a nice surprise. Drinking green tea is good for your teeth! If you haven’t tried it, consider giving it a go; there are so many different green teas to choose from. First of all, drinking green tea is good for your gums. Green tea helps to reduce the risk of inflammation and other gum diseases. Secondly, this dri...nk regulates saliva production in your mouth, which helps to prevent cavities. Last but not least, green tea has antibacterial properties and kills microbes that cause bad breath. Enjoy that cup of green tea and help your teeth. If you have your tea with honey or sugar, don’t forget to drink a glass of water afterwards to rinse out all those sugars.

Just a reminder that masks are mandatory in Brandon and Keystone Dental Center. We love seeing your homemade masks and the different fabrics and designs on them. Did you know that some masks work better than others? At Keystone Dental Centre, we wear different masks depending on your appointment - from general medical-grade masks to N95 masks and face shields. There are also different levels of protectiveness in fabric masks. This effectiveness is dependent on how much moisture is getting through the layers of fabric. A 2-3 layer cotton mask with a filter doesn’t have very many droplets get through while a single-layered buff (or neck gaiter), is not very effective, according to recent studies because of the thin, porous fabric.

Tip For Your Teeth: Feeling snacky? Have some sliced cucumber and Greek yogurt dip! This crunchy veggie is really good for you and your teeth. Cucumbers are full of fibre and water. The crunchiness, fibre and water helps produce saliva, which washes away bacteria and food particles in your mouth. Greek yogurt is also beneficial for your teeth. It has a lot of calcium, which helps keep your bones healthy (including your jawbone).

Did You Know that sugar-free gum can help clean your teeth? According to the Oral Health Foundation, chewing sugar-free gum helps clean and protect your teeth between meals. The act of chewing gum produces saliva, which washes away food debris and acid from the food. But don’t chew too much gum as it can cause jaw problems. One or two sticks a day should be fine, but ask us at your next dental appointment if you’re concerned. Book your next checkup and cleaning today. https://www.keystonedentalcentre.ca/book-appointment

Did You Knowthat for strong teeth, you need more phosphorus in your body? According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, most of this mineral is located in your teeth. The magic duo of phosphorus and calcium helps to keep your teeth strong and healthy. Meats, eggs, nuts, beans and dairy products are the richest sources of phosphorus. You can also get this mineral from whole grains, dried fruits and some carbonated beverages. Maintaining the right phosphorus levels in your body can benefit your teeth and overall health. But it works only in combination with a strict oral hygiene routine and regular dental check-ups. Don’t forget to book your next dental appointment today at Keystone Dental Centre.

Did You Know that sharks have 40 sets of teeth? Many sharks have teeth layered in rows. They usually have two to three rows but can have up to 15! Over a shark’s lifetime, they’ll lose a lot of teeth. One of the reasons that sharks lose a lot of teeth is because their teeth don’t have roots like ours do - this means that they break off easily. Some may last only a week before falling out (especially if they bite something hard).

We want to reassure our patients that we are still seeing patients for regular dental checkups and cleanings. Yesterday, August 12, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) released a statement saying that these routine appointments should be put on hold for the time being. The Canadian Dental Association released a response stating that this does not apply to Manitoba or Canada. The WHO’s recommendations apply to areas with widespread community outbreaks of COVID-19. Be assured that your health and safety, and the health and safety of our team, is our top priority. If there are any changes to our practice or your appointments we will let you know as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these ever-evolving times.

Tip For Your Teeth: reduce your stress. If you’re stressed you’re more likely to grind your teeth and clench your jaw. Some ways you might be able to reduce stress include: Getting active - go for a walk, run or do some yoga. The endorphins that get released help lower stress levels Eat more fruits and veggies - it’s important to eat healthy so your body gets all the vitamins and minerals it needs Watch a comedy - laughing can go a long way in making you feel better,... even a forced laugh. So get out that comedy you’ve been meaning to watch or an old joke book and have a good chuckle Sleep - take a nap if you need to, you may be run down and not know it so it’s a good idea to take a breather and a snooze See more
