Helpful information.

This announcement may be the game changer that will enable small business to survive. In particular the wage subsidy is finally large enough that many businesses won't be forced to lay off as many, or in some cases any, employees. That will enable a faster economic rebound once the health crisis is passed. It will keep people employed and employed people will shop at their local (online) business where they would otherwise have hoarded their cash. That, in turn, will keep even more people employed and so we may just have a recession and not depression.

Small business is big when it comes to the amount of people it employs. It is the bedrock of our economy. It also, generally, doesn't have the financial reserves or capacity to weather significant disruptions to cash flow. Consider how you can support your favorite local business during this period of major public health disruption to normal operations. We need them to survive so that there is a place for employees to go back to once the crisis passes.

I appreciated the calming wisdom from Tim's guests to this article. They've been through the stock crashes before and even though every time it is different it is always the same. You just need a little hope. https://messaging-custom-newsletters.nytimes.com/tem/oakv2
