Volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and we appreciate all that you do to improve the lives of children and youth involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Aid Society. A big thank you goes out to our volunteer Board of Directors, and to our weekly and seasonal volunteers. You are all amazing!
On #EarthDay it's important we recognize our role in protecting the earth for generations to come. We can get kids involved in caring for the planet as well, by: Using less water Planting a tree Planting pollinator flowers Reduce, reuse, recycle... Making activities and games with recycling See more
Meet Oscar, Deb (our Executive Director)’s cat! He a rambunctious 5-year-old cat. His nickname is pup because he acts more like a dog than a cat . He greets everyone when they come home, is often seen lying at people’s feet, and goes on walks around the neighbourhood with the family.... He is very loyal to his family, and loves his home in the country and spending time at the cottage. It’s Pet Day! Pets can be such a great addition to a home. Do you have a pet at home? Share a photo of them with us!
Your support helps youth pursue their dreams. Recently, a youth received funding to buy the tools he needed to work in his trade . Providing opportunities and support allows youth to try new things, focus on their passions, and continue to have life-enriching opportunities and experiences.
Here’s a look at our Comfort Kits Program Comfort Kits brings comfort to children as they transition into temporary or permanent foster care or kinship home (with extended family). Backpacks provided by the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada and supplies purchased through donations allow our workers to fill up an age-appropriate backpack. This program is made possible through the Children's Aid Foundation of Canada.
Meet Board Member Melissa Graham-MacDonald Melissa has been at the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society for over 28 years as a front-line worker. During these years she has watched the Foundation provide countless opportunities to the children involved with the KHCAS, which has allowed for the workers to also provide for their children. Anyone who works with Melissa knows that her favourite time of the year has always been Christmas and that Santa’s Sleigh is one of ...her favourite events. It has even become a family event in her home. Becoming a member of the Board of Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation in 2019 was an exciting and natural choice for Melissa, and one she looks forward to participating in for many years. Melissa serves on the Membership Committee and the Fundraising Task Force. Thank you Melissa for your dedication and support.

With spring here, it's the perfect time to get outside and start working on the garden! Involve kids with your gardening by letting them pick their own seeds and give them their part of the garden. Get them watering, digging, and decorating! Planting vegetables is another great activity to do with kids as they get to enjoy the fruits (vegetables!) of their labour.
Hoppy Easter! We hope you enjoy the long weekend, the Easter treats, and the time with your family
We provide enrichment opportunities and other supports for children involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society. We are committed to partnering with donors, businesses and other granting organizations to provide ways for the community to respond to the current and future needs of local children who are at risk. Most importantly, the foundation is dedicated to supporting children and youth placed in interim or extended care (formerly known as Foster Care) with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society, by encouraging them to achieve their full potential by providing them with life-enriching opportunities and experiences.
Today is Find a Rainbow Day and while the weather might not cooperate, it's still a lovely thought to seak out rainbows all around us. And if a rainbow isn't in the forecast, bring out the crayons, paints, and markers and create your own

Happy Family Day Seek out little and big moments of joy today. Try video calling a loved one, exploring a new spot outside, or baking inside together. How do you plan to spend the day?
By day, our newest volunteer Rebecca does amazing things spreading #LocalLove through her work with the United Way of Peterborough & District. As a regular Santa’s Sleigh donor and a busy mother of 3, Rebecca wanted to do a little bit extra to support at-risk children in our community. She began volunteering for us in September 2020, and in her spare time works from home scribing the Minutes of our Board Meetings from recordings. Volunteers are the backbone of the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation and we are so grateful for Rebecca’s commitment and expertise!
Your support is bettering SO many lives! Here's one example, from a youth who received gift card support. "This youth was so happy to get the gift cards for Giant Tiger! She finally got her own apartment, but she has to walk a fair distance to school and her part-time job. She is going to buy a warmer winter jacket with the money. She was so grateful and asked me to pass on her thanks!!" We are so grateful to have your support as we work to enrich the lives of children and youth in our communities.
Spread love and kindness today Happy Valentine’s Day!

This incredibly generous donation will go directly towards our Santa's Sleigh Gift Cards for Kids Program taking place until Decembe...r 9th. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our local realtors for their kindness and past volunteer support. Your gift of hope means so much.

We are so incredibly grateful to Bob and his team at Gauvreau & Associates CPA for all their hard work with this initiative dedicated to supporting local at-risk kids. Thank you too to all who donated and a huge shout out goes to Justin Christensen from Circul-Air Corp and Bob Gauvreau for your matching donations. Your kindness and generosity has made it possible for 1,016 children and youth involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Aid Society to receive a special gift this holiday season. You have made the impossible a reality and we can't thank you enough.
While we aren't collecting physical gifts as part of this year's Santa's Sleigh program, rest assured that children will still be unwrapping toys and presents under the tree! KHCAS workers will be provided with the donated and purchased gift cards to assist their clients in choosing the gifts. The end result remains the same, children will be happily unwrapping presents on Christmas morning . For the safety of our staff and volunteers, we are collecting gift cards instead ...of toys. Gift cards can be dropped off at customer service at Canadian Tire on Chemong Road, Merritt’s Home Building Centre on Lansdowne St. W, Kingan Home Hardware on Simcoe Street, and Morello’s Independent on Lansdowne St E. Thank you for your support of the 2020 Santa’s Sleigh Gift Cards For Kids program. For more information, please visit: https://www.khcas.on.ca//2020-santas-sleigh-gift-cards-fo/

We are so lucky to have such a supportive business community! With many summer camps closed, or fewer children being able to attend, Kawartha Orthodontics yearly donation helped create a new opportunity to get children outside and enjoying the sun! A very big thank you to Kawartha Orthodontics for their donation to our Soaking up Summer Program! Thank you for everything you do for at- risk children in our community.
Although you may not be able to send a child involved with the Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society to camp this year, you can still give them the opportunity to soak up summer!
