Saturday April 17, 2021 - looking good and the stump feels pretty good. Surgery was Feb 5, 2021. As you can see, the scar tissue/granulated tissue is building up again. I’m gonna let it grow and power through the rubbing to see if it will toughen up and be more like a callous. Stay tuned.
The ACC is excited to introduce to you our newest Board member Kia Johnsen. Kia is a British Columbia resident and brings with her a fresh outlook and also is a...ble to provide first hand information on Osseointegration, a new procedure that is changing lives for Amputees around the world. Please join us with a warm welcome to Kia!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello! My name is Kia Johnsen and I’m an above knee amputee (almost 8 years) with Osseointegration (4 years) from Prince George, BC. I’m known for being an advocator for myself and anyone that needs someone to be on their side for the right reasons. I have become a certified Amputee Peer Support Person and trainer and a certified chronic pain coach with PainBC because I want to help everyone. I don’t want any amputee to feel alone, or a person with chronic pain to think they’re suffering alone. I want to help the families make the changes they need to make and the support to get through the tough times. We all need to feel heard and to have the chance to look at things from a different perspective. I’m honoured and excited to be a part of the Canadian Amputee Coalition Board of Directors and I look forward to creating opportunities to support and educate each other and to help connect us from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
This surgery was NOT Osseointegration related. It was an amputee stump problem that I had before Osseointegration and other amputees often have similar surgeries throughout amputee life. Surgery today- My surgery took 3+hours. WAY over what we anticipated. Bone spur and scar tissue around stoma removed. (Scar tissue removal was instigated by me prior to being knocked out in the operating room after I showed my surgeon the growth)... Sciatic nerve had grown bundles of nerves like a tangled rats nest of hair. They grew invasively into the soft tissues so that was removed and cut out of my soft tissues and then the sciatic nerve was buried in my muscle has far as possible to help prevent it from growing all new nerve bundles in the future. Hurts like hell, but I’m trying to stick with Tylenol and Advil alternating every two hours, so four hours a part, ice and elevation. This time my surgeon is concerned about the pain he is expecting me to have so he prescribed hydra morph - guess I’ll see how I feel in the next day or two.
I have seen some really hilarious signs - this is good stuff

I would like to point out that the percents they give for disadvantages are less than what they’ve posted. I would like to know where they got their statistics from especially the 20% of implants being removed. I would bet that the removal of an implant is less than 10%.

Surgery tomorrow to remove a bone spur, neuroma's and debulking. The scar tissue has built up around the top half of my stoma so I'm asking him to remove that too. Theoretically, I should be all cleaned up and good to go for the next few years.
