Day 25 - Wrapped & Packaged #marchmeetthemaker I’m exposing myself HARD right now, but I thought it was fitting. The first picture was taken exactly 2 years ago and I was 17. There’s been a lot of ups and downs but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and I can’t wait to see where I’ll go. Day 23 - Jobs #marchmeetthemaker As a sole proprietor, I do EVERYTHING myself! I make all the shoes, edit all the videos, promote all the work, make all the deals, and l still find time to sleep. It’s definitely stressful at times and can definitely become overwhelming, but there’s no feeling like watching a customer unbox a pair of shoes I did for them. I love the look on peoples faces when they see the art I have created, or knowing I had helpful content in a video. Whate...ver it is, I really do love this job, and I hope to pursue it full time in the near future! Having said that, I definitely have help along the way. HUGE shoutout to all my mentors, my guides, my rocks, and my family who support me every step along the way. I’ve seen some of my biggest opportunities because of other creatives in the city and I couldn’t be more grateful! Day 18 - Colour / Day 19 - Silver Linings #marchmeetthemaker I really like to focus on the colours I use. In most projects I work on, the colour selection is extremely important. Take the first pair for example. I spent over an hour colour matching the Ultra-Violet purple and Raspberry colour. I find having a keen eye for the colours I’m using can really make or break a design, especially when the design is based off of something specific. The biggest silver lining from ...this job has to be the therapeutical creative elements to it. Spending hours bringing something to life fulfils my soul like nothing else does. Seeing a vision go from just an idea, to reality is amazing. Aside from that, having to sit still and focus on work really calms my mind. It lets me think and clear my head. Day 11 - Portrait #marchmeetthemaker This pair was actually one of the first customs I ever did. This pair was done in late 2018 roughly 8 months after starting Kicksbyshea. To this day, this is the only portrait I’ve ever done. I was very happy with how it came out and how the pair itself ended up looking! I had an amazing client to work with that was supportive every step of the way. Moving forward, I want to get more comfortable with portraits and improve my artistry ...overall! Day 8 - Work in Progress & Day 9 - Learning Curve #marchmeetthemaker Missed yesterday to take a break from socials but I’m back on track today. Starting with work in progress! Currently, I have no projects that I am in the middle of painting. HOWEVER, I have several projects that I have planned and all I have to do is start! My workshop is undergoing some small upgrades at the moment and I’m stoked to get that finished for y’all! Stay tuned for some MASSIVE customs I got... coming out shortly! Moving on to learning curve, I’ve had a lot. Some deal with hands on matters; paint on shoes, others are mental and related to stress/mental health, etc. The biggest learning curve I had came to me at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020. Everything happens with time & exactly when it’s supposed too. With a ton of help from my mentors from @theremixproject, I’ve learned that focusing on the work I’m putting out and the work I love to do will bring me the farthest in any of my endeavours. I’m constantly learning and growth isn’t linear. I’m just so grateful to have the circle of supportive friends & family that I do. Day 4 - On you desk #marchmeetthemaker I like to keep my space very organized whenever possible. I keep everything on shelves or in drawers when they’re not in constant use. So my desk is very raw when I’m not working. It consists of a towel to paint on, a self healing cutting mat, 2 lamps, a laptop stand, and an LED backdrop. To the right I have a drawer full of my tapes, paint brushes, power/hand tools, and other things I’ll need at any given time. To the left I have ...my Silhouette Cameo 3 and my leather patcher set up for easy access. Beside my desk I have a shelving unit with all my paints, glues, chemicals, and other miscellaneous items. And behind me is where I store all my shoes/current projects. I’m using an older picture for day 4 since the current status of my studio is a mess! This picture is missing my new cutting mat, a lamp, and my LED backdrop. Day 3 - Beliefs & Values #marchmeetthemaker Without making this too long, I’ll list 3 things that are important to me. The first being the creation a good product that’s worth it’s money. The amount of time and precision that goes into each piece is reflected in the final product. Always making sure to create something that is valuable to the owner.... Secondly, I believe in letting creativity run its course. When ideas manifest naturally, the final product is ALWAYS better then if an idea is forced or rushed. I like to take my time and enjoy what I’m working on, and I think thats best for both myself and the customer. Lastly, a big value for me is integrity. I don’t like to copy other artists. Day 2 - Style #marchmeetthemaker Long time, no see! During my 3 years working with sneakers, the first year was spent doing mostly restorations. I stepped away from them because there was no creativity! Everything had to be exactly the same as the original. Over the last 2 years I have been developing my skills and my own style to stand out. I have never been the greatest at turning ideas into drawings, and that is a goal of mine in the upcoming months, however, I think ...my style lies on design and colour palettes. Taking ideas and remixing them into something new and fresh. My style is also being incredibly precise and accurate with my lines and shapes. Cleanliness is very important to me and I want to make sure that my work looks FACTORY at all times! Another thing I really focus on is clean stencil work. In a project I worked on last year (my next YouTube video) my lines were coming out blurry, so I bought a whole new roll of vinyl that had a stronger adhesive and completely repainted the entire upper to get clean lines.
