In the last decade, hundreds of living donors across Canada have shared the gift of life through the national Kidney Paired Donation program. This innovative transplant opportunity offers patients with chronic kidney disease and their incompatible friend or family member wishing to donate a kidney the possibility of exchanging donors with other pairs in the same situation. The Kidney Foundation of Canada is proud to be a member of the Canadian Society of Transplantation’s (CST) Living Donor Circle of Excellence program. The Living Donor Circle of Excellence program recognizes companies that have policies in place to support the wages of a living donor employee who donates a kidney, or a part of their liver, or the donor of an employee. Financial hardships associated with living organ donation are often a major disincentive for many donors. CST's Living Donor Circle of Excellence aims to eliminate the financial costs of living organ donation by recognizing companies whose policies support living donation. Did you know that the Kidney Foundation runs the Living Organ Donor Expense Reimbursement Program (LODERP)? Rhonda Dawes from Lethbridge selflessly donated her kidney to a complete stranger, and didn't have to worry about the cost of multiple trips to Calgary for testing and surgery, hotel cost and meals in Calgary, and parking at the hospital for all of her appointments. LODERP aims to reduce the financial barriers that some potential kidney donors might face. For information about LODERP, please contact your local Kidney Foundation office. https://globalnews.ca//200122bc-286d-11eb-9498-0242ac110/

In the News: "Ultimate act of kindness" Lethbridge resident Rhonda Dawes simply wanted to give someone a better 2020. So she gave a bit of herself, a kidney, to an anonymous recipient last month. I really wanted it done because 2020 has been such a crappy year, said Dawes. For me, I can’t imagine living in 2020 when you have an illness like kidney disease. I thought if I could get this donation done in 2020 that makes my 2020 amazing and someone else’s 2020 amazing.... #organdonor #organdonation #giftoflife #hero #kidneydonation #LoganBoulet #GreenShirtDay
