Please let me (Annie) know if you are free in the AM or PM of any one of the following dates: - Monday, May 7th - Monday, May 28, or - Monday, June 11th We are looking for volunteers to visit a primary school :)
A little intro to Kids2Hear: Hearing loss is a prevalent condition that affects not only the ears, but also cognition and has a detrimental effect on language and social development. Luckily, doctors can diagnose hearing loss with audiometry in their offices. However, this test can be expensive, time consuming and requires the physician to have a suspicion of hearing loss. ... Detecting hearing loss early is KEY to help patients early in their medical plan, limiting the language delay and increasing their chance of rehabilitation. It is that reality that drives Kids2Hear to visit elementary schools and screen for hearing loss. With an interactive iPad-based application (called Shoebox audiometry) that has showed some benefit, children can be universally tested for hearing function in their school environment. All this for free and it is for the kids some time they enjoy playing a game on an iPad! While Kids2Hear is a McGill medical student-led organization, the iHear initiative started at the university of Ottawa. We invite you to read the paper at the inception of this project The new age of play audiometry: prospective validation testing of an iPad-based audiometerpublished in the Journal of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery!
