When an anxious thought surfaces, coach your child to recognize the difference between a truth thought and a trick thought. ... A TRUTH THOUGHT will be: Based on evidence Usually have some logic/sense to it Containable Have some solutions A TRICK THOUGHT will be: Based off of what if’s Usually due to an emotional body response Spirals out of control Feels like there are no possible solutions By helping them recognize how to differentiate them, you can them help them convert a trick thought into a truth thought that can then be supported and guided. The more we know the more they grow!
