It is with heavy hearts that the Kids 'n' Us: Families Facing Diabetes Society has decided to cancel the 2020 conference scheduled for May 2nd. While we have been monitoring the Covid-19 outbreak, we must put the health and safety of our participants, volunteers and vendors above all else. If the planning committee is able to reschedule the conference later in the year, we will send out an update at that time. We want to ensure that our immune compromised participants are st...ill receiving the support they require during this pandemic. Please use the following link, put together by MySugr, for preventative measures and health management for people with diabetes. There are also local agencies that can provide diabetes support if required. Just to mention a few is Alberta Diabetes Foundation, Diabetes Canada and JDRF. The diabetes community will rally together, while social distancing, to get through these uncertain times. https://mysugr.com//coronavirus-and-diabetes-risks-and-mea All registration fees, sponsorships and vendor fees will be returned in the coming weeks. As we are a volunteer based organization, please be patient as we work through the logistics. Please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns. We hope that you are practising social distancing and keeping your loved ones safe and protected.

The Kids 'n' Us: Families Facing Diabetes Society has decided to cancel our fundraising Golf Tournament scheduled for August 14th, 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pan...demic, we would not be able to put on an amazing tournament and keep everyone safe. We will be back in 2021 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin! We'll have more updates early in 2021. Stay safe everyone!

The Kids 'n' Us: Families Facing Diabetes Society is still planning on holding our annual conference in early May, however we are monitoring the COVID-19 situation very closely. We will follow the best guidance from health authorities to ensure the safety and health of our conference attendees, guest speakers, sponsors, and volunteers. Concerns about COVID-19 are world-wide. We're tracking data and information from a variety of global diabetes support communities. Having wel...l-controlled diabetes doesn’t necessarily put you at an increased risk of Coronavirus. With proper precautions and self-management strategies, one can manage the challenge of flu-type viruses, including COVID-19. Remember that preparation, instead of panic, is key. Here are some recommendations: - Wash your hands! Scrub with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. If you’re unable to wash, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands. - Try to avoid being around people who are sick, and importantly, stay home if you’re sick. The likelihood of getting the Coronavirus is still rather low in most parts of the world, but it continues to spread daily. - Avoid travel to and from areas with outbreaks of the virus. - Maintain good blood sugars and A1c. The body’s ability to fight infection decreases when blood sugars aren’t controlled well. - Follow your medical team's advice: have a sick-day plan including checking ketones and how to increase insulin doses if blood sugars are high. - Drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, exercise and manage stress! - Have some medications and supplies on hand for if you do get sick, such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol, low-sugar Gatorade or Pedialyte, Imodium for diarrhea, and cold medication.
