Kikehtahsuwiw Farm 04.05.2021

Today we had a bunch of beautiful and amazing visitors here on the farm. Animals have this amazing ability to tune into those of us who need a lil extra comfort, and I'm happy to hear that the crew here at Kikehtahsuwiw was able to provide that extra bit of care and comfort and bring smiles and joy to this lovely bunch. Did you know "kikehtahsuwiw" means "it heals" in the wolastok language?

Our nigerian dwarf goat, Bella had a set of twins....and Bob is the father, not the uncle. On the other hand, we had a Doe named Ginger who was boarding here for a few months in order to find a baby-daddy (was hoping for Bob), and she just had a set of twins too...girls! and Oreo is the dad wee believe...so Bobs the Uncle! we are now waiting on Peanut (remember the runt piglet from last summer?) She is ready to farrow...her first time. we have many guesses on the # of p...iglets she will have. This place is full of new life (even the pond has new goldfish!...they survived the winter). In times of sadness, tragedy and despair, I am super grateful we have all this new life happening around us. This really gets us through tough times. What gets you through the tough times?

March 14,2021. The kids are 2 days old. Gabby’s first bday was the day before the kids were born. And I acknowledged my late brother Vernon this weekend. Yesterday would have been his birthday

Pretty sure Bob is the dad. But there’s this uncanny resemblance to Oreo. Ugh

Congrats goes out to Gabby the Goat. She birthed 2 kids this afternoon. I'll admit we became super stressed for a wee bit.... but we eventually pulled it together, calmed down, and seemed pretty humane once the Vet arrvied to do the post birth check up. We need to pull away, let Gabby do her thing, and bond with her babies. a Friend suggested naming them Henry and Daisey....I'm not so sure its safe for me to name them as the male will be sold to someone else once he is old enough. but the names are cute.

Someone asked where would someone go if they required mental health support. Below is my reply. Please add your local numbers. If I was seeking.... I would first contact our health centre. Speak to BJ. Then Marie Claude. And if I needed psychiatric care, they would refer me to Dr.K. He visits SMFN every 5 weeks. That’s a pretty fast intake rate. If I was non native and had no affiliation with a FN community.... I would either call the mobile crisis unit (after hours) for ...an intake. Or call Victoria Health Centre during the day and request an intake. Since the wait time is so long, I would ask for outreach groups (they have them weekly). There are also various programs that VHC offers. These programs are just as good as doing solo sessions. (Peer related programs are proven to be more effective than most programs) If I was status Indian. And didn’t want to go with these suggestions. I would call a private practice and ask if they are an approved provider with NIHB. You qualify for 20hrs/year. And then.... if none of these options were for me. I would bring a pouch of tobacco and a small gift and visit an elder. I would also seek out any local ceremonies... find out a bit about the conductor of the ceremonies. And if it was a good fit, I would ask to participate. I’ve always reminded myself (sometimes not soon enough) that when and if I am sick mentally, emotionally , physically, or spiritually ...... then I need to get my spiritual house in order, and only then will everything else fall into place. Hope this helps.
