We are excited to welcome local artist Cecilia Lea (Paintings by Cecilia) to our online art store! In 1990, Cecilia was literally forced by her employer at the time, to attend a weekend workshop. Never had she thought of being an artist, but under duress, and at her employer's insistence, she went. By the end of that workshop, Cecilia was hooked. Thirty years later her art has found homes worldwide. "Tending the Land - Cabot Trail" is one of three oil paintings Cecilia has for sale in our online art store: kimberleyarts.com/artstore

How to be an awesome drive-in movie visitor. Since I have never visited a drive-in movie before, I thought Id look up some tips on what to do and more importantly what not to do. Heres what I found:... - Arrive early - Turn off your lights (all of them) - Be mindful of other peoples view - Shut off your car and use a portable radio if youre unsure about your car battery - Bring drinks and snacks - Wear comfy clothes (snuggies allowed) - Bring blankets or sleeping bags - Bring a plastic bag for garbage And last but not least: apparently a drive in movie is not really about the movie. Its about people watching, making out in the car, talking through the movie, snacks, blankets, loud teenagers and bad sound.

Why would anyone visit the art gallery at Centre 64? Well, I found some very good reasons why! Its free! All you have to do is leave your fear at the door (or take it with you), walk in, say hello to the gallery volunteer/staff, put a face mask on (masks are free), quietly walk around and enjoy your visual feast. Its relaxing! Art is a form of meditation. Nothing can clear your mind like visiting an art gallery; its meditative and fun! ... Its easy! All art requires is that you spend a little time with it. Get to know it. See yourself in it, good or bad. The process is fun. Youll have a blast. If you dont like the show this month, come back next month and visit a different show. You get to pick and choose the art that you like. Enjoy! Its inspiring! Being around art and in the company of creative people makes YOU more creative. Nothing boosts your own personal creativity more than visiting an art gallery. You know, Ive read that if you open yourself up to art, youll become smarter, sharper, warmer, freer, more tolerant and considerate and more at peace not to mention more creative. I believe its really true. Give it a shot! Kimberley Arts at Centre 64 64 Deer Park Avenue Kimberley B.C. We already have many awesome volunteers at Centre 64, but we could always use more! Are you interested in helping out in the gallery? We need people to greet visitors, explain our COVID-19 measures, and sanitize high-touch points. You get to spend a couple of relaxing hours enjoying the art, perhaps finally finishing that drawing or knitting project or that book, meeting people, and the satisfaction of helping the staff get some jobs done that require them to be away from the... gallery. Please contact Irma or Christine at 250-427-4919/[email protected] if you would like to sign up. Thank you and have a great long weekend!

Leeroy Stagger & The Rebeltone Sound were supposed to kick off our Kimberley Kaleidoscope Art Festival 2020 today. Unfortunately, our annual art festival looks very different this year. The good news is that Leeroy and his band did give an amazing online live stream concert on July 25th, 2020 as part of Kimberley Kaleidoscope Art Festival 2020. The recording of this concert is still available on YouTube: (starts after 3:30 minutes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bBkqNs9ltk... [email protected] - kimberleyarts.com - leeroystagger.com Enjoy! Featuring: Leeroy Stagger Vocalist, Tyson Maiko Bassist, Nicholas Steczkiewicz Drums, Ryland Moranz Guitar, Michael Ayotte Keyboards Leeroy Staggers ever-evolving fusion of roots, rock and pop has confirmed his status as one of Canadas best contemporary singer/songwriters. Since first making his mark on the Canadian independent music scene at the turn of this century, Leeroy Stagger has toured the world, both on his own and with the likes of Steve Earle, Pixies, Modest Mouse and Evan Dando. Staggers performances and song writing have won him The Peak 95.3 FM Peak Performance Project contest (2015) and the Calgary Folk Festival Pros and Prose contest (2014). The addition of Love Versus (2017), to his (ahem) staggering body of work opens a new chapter, promising to reach many more ears.

Happy Friday Art Project: Tie Dye This Fridays project is inspired by local artist Shannon Fraser. Shannon creates wonderful Batiks and has exhibited her art p...ieces in our gallery in the past. As Batik supplies are harder to get lately, she has been focusing on the art of tie dye. When I saw Shannons tie dye Pika Roar t-shirt on Facebook two days ago, I loved it right away. Lucky for me, Shannon sells her tie dye pieces at the Farmers Market in Kimberley, and look what Im wearing today! Follow the link below to find our more about how to tie dye: https://www.tiedyeyoursummer.com/Technique/how-to-tie-dye Just because I can I will throw in a second art & craft project idea: Batik inspired art. Just to be clear: although these easy projects are called Batik, they are not! Batik is a complicated process and paints on fabric is not the same as Batik. This doesnt mean we cant have some fun with these Batik inspired projects.
