Good morning, I have had a number of people ask what kind of therapist I am. I thought I would take a few minutes to tell you. I am a compassionate, non-judgmental and empathetic Registered Provisional Psychologist who offers clients unconditional positive regard. I have a profound interest and passion for promoting the mental health, well-being, and resiliency in children, adolescents, adults and their families. I believe that clients have the power to make positive change...s within themselves and hope to advocate, support and challenge individuals, when necessary, to work through the issues they are facing. I do this by providing a confidential, supportive, and trusting environment. I have first hand experience working with individuals who have encountered turmoil, grief, and heartache in their lives, contributing to their mental health concerns. I believe the sole focus of counselling is not merely to treat severe mental health disorders, but also to provide clients with tools that foster personal growth, confidence, and happiness. I have experience and enjoy working in the following areas: Depression, anxiety, stress management, emotional regulation, trauma, grief and loss, parent/child issues, relational conflict, self- esteem, sexuality and gender identity and adjustment/life transitions. Throughout my career, I have worked in the mental health field in a variety of settings working with children, adolescents, adults, and families with mental health and addiction concerns. I recognize that each client has different needs and draw upon varying counselling approaches throughout the counselling journey. I incorporate an attachment focus and over arching existential lens while utilizing mindfulness, Somatic (body based), narrative, cognitive behavioural, and family systems theory interventions. I work from a person centered, strength based model that enhances the abilities of the client, enabling sustainable change. *Please remember it is important to find a counsellor who is the right fit for you. The work done in counseling depends largely on the relationship between the counsellor and client! Let’s talk about APPS! As a counsellor I see my clients constantly surrounded and impacted by their mobile devices, tablets etc. While mindlessly surfing the net, playing candy crush, and other games can provide us with a good distractions, there are ways to incorporate more mindful app use! Mental health apps can be a great resource and can help individuals access therapeutic material, follow up and reinforce work done in counseling, or to aid in skill development. I have... compiled a list of 5 of my favorite Mental Health apps. Some of these are free while others are best used with a monthly or yearly fee. They are excellent resources for children, adolescents, adults, and even families! Mainy of my clients report these being helpful to use between our sessions. I strongly encourage you to check these out Calm- assists individuals with meditation, sleep, and relaxation techniques. https://www.calm.com Headspace- Guided Meditation & Mindfulness on happiness, stress, and many other topics. https://www.headspace.com Happify- Science based activities & games to overcome stress and life’s challenges. https://happify.com/ Pacifica- Anxiety, stress, and repression relief based on CBT and mindfulness meditation. http://www.thinkpacifica.com ThinkUp- build motivation and a positive mindset through positive affirmations. http://thinkup.me ** While the above apps were developed by Psychologists and are meant to assist individuals in learning skills that will elicit small changes over time- Please remember that they do not replace professional treatment.
