Introducing our February Guest Speaker: the incredible Erica Porter! On Saturday, February 27th, Guest Speaker Erica will be joining us to talk about her career... as a professional fisherwoman and Ocean Technician in Nova Scotia, Canada! Erica has a fascinating career, having fished for dozens species of fish since starting with her dad as a teenager, as well as working as an Ocean Technician to support many local fish tracking research projects. She is an avid conservationist who has a unique relationship to the ocean, and we can't wait to hear all about her adventures! For participants who have attended our marine biology summer programs in Nova Scotia, you may recognize Erica! Several of our programs have partnered with Erica and her family to offer hands-on experiences helping local female biologists with their fish conservation research projects. Her talk is titled "Life on the Ocean: Fishing, Science, and Conservation" and is a FREE online event for girls+ ages 12 - 18 who live in Atlantic Canada and south Florida.
