Thanks for the great response to my in-progress portrait drawing yesterday! Here is another I did while the students worked on theirs. This one, which is also of a real person (for those who want to know), is done or very nearly. I might fine-tune one or two things.... I love working freely like this, expressing what I notice and love about a face, but not just that, also what I love about line and shape, allowing them to have their way at the expense of likeness if need be, because it is a drawing first and foremost. #Selective development of form through light and shadow is also a fun game to play, again because it is all about the drawing, not the rendering. I've been working in a variety of ways on this big digital version of CreativeHub 1352's In Situ festival. Usually this festival is a large, multi-day multi-arts festival in Mississauga that takes over the Small Arms Inspection Building and just injects art into every hallway and crevice of it. But as with all things, it's had to transition and go online. Instead of it just being a website, the team wanted to create a living digital experience. Well, that digital experience... is launching this weekend! This Friday, March 26th, in fact! I'm super excited for this because I don't even know what the digital experience is going to be like - I just helped collect and contribute to it through outreach workshops and little filmed videos. So when it launches this Friday, it'll also be my first time "walking the halls" as it were.
