One more sleep! Let the Christmas Carnage begin. Depending on your traditions some folks may see the wrapping paper start to fly at some point today. Make sure to assist your pets in opening their gifts. Strings, bows and balls of wrapping paper to play with certainly makes a cute Instagram post, However use caution. It takes the blink of an eye for those fun wrappings to be swallowed whole! That may mean rummaging through things much smellier then gifts or worse an emergency surgery to remove the foreign objects! Stay safe this holiday and keep the wrapping and bows away from Fido and Mr.Toes!

The hustle and bustle of the season can be joyous for some and stressful for others, our furry counterparts are no exception! On the 8th day of Christmas we are here to help make your Holiday as stress free as possible! Our pets feel the Holiday stress differently then we do, They are do not stress on what to buy their relatives. Instead they notice the change when the decoration start to go up. Our pets are creatures of habit and when their daily routines change that can lea...d to a stress responses. When our plans are in full swing and our household is bustling with unfrequented visitors stress levels will peak. To help our pets feel safe and sound make sure to offer them a quiet location to "get away from it all" during all the excitement. Most will set up a room in the house with a comfy bed, food and water and even play some music to add background noise that is more calming for them. Ensure they are sporting all their identification tags in case they make a bolt for the it, as it only takes a blink of an eye as your family tries to squeeze through your front door. Make sure to also educate the two legged friends on how to approach your pooch. A cornered dog who is normally happy-go-lucky can respond in fear with a growl and even a bite! Make sure to respect these warnings of discomfort and give them the space they need. There are some natural means to assist with those who experience anxiety during these times. There is a natural pheromone to help both our felines and K9's. (Feliway and Adaptil) A rescue remedy that is taken by mouth. (Mellows) A shirt that "swaddles" them into comfort (Thundershirt) *Feel free to call us and we can help you find the best solution for your pets Wishing you a stress free Holiday

Walking in a winter wonderland Day 7 brings you some helpful tips to keep you both safe while staying active and enjoying the great outdoors! It is the most wonderful time of year, surrounded by the freshly falling snow and the twinkle of the lights as you and Fido enjoy your evening stroll. ... We want to ensure it is not only the lights that can be seen while you stay healthy and active together. With the days getting shorter and darkness creeping in before supper is off the table, we want to help you stay safe and sound this season. Step one: Plan your route! Make sure if you are not with a buddy to keep a phone on you that is charged in case of an emergency. TIP: Store this phone inside your coat to keep it warm as some will shut down if they reach a certain extreme temperatures. Step two: Dress for the weather, both you and your pet. Not all dogs are built the same way or have the same protective hair coat. Shorter haired dogs can benefit from a sweater or jacket that covers their back and chest, allowing their core temperature to stay more regulated. Avoid the biting frost and stay toasty. Step 3: Stay Visible! Make sure to sport your reflective layers on the outside of your toasty gear so anyone driving by can make both you and your pooch out easily, no matter the weather or time of day! Safety can be fashionable with reflective & light up collars and harnesses. Also, a variety of arm bands, head lights and wind breakers for our two legged friends. Stay Healthy and Stay Safe!

On the 6th day of Christmas my Vet gave to me... A "shocking" tip for little Fluffy! Avoid an Electrifying Holiday this season, we are talking about those twinkling bulbs of joy wrapped around your tree. ... Did you know your household plugs have 120 Volts running through them when powered? If your pets have taking a particular interest in your lights and the only thing you wish to roast this year is the turkey, we are here to help! Bitter spray can be put on the cords to help deter the action; this will leave a foul taste in their mouth and deter them for the future. However, soaking your wires in spray may be a challenge in itself. Thankfully, they also carry an assortment of light options; such as battery operated and lower voltage variety (12V vs 120V). We all know this is not the shock anyone wishes to have occur on Christmas Morning. When in doubt, train them to leave it or help with a more appropriate distraction. A tired pet is a good pet and playing to distract does not have to be a "reward" for their naughty behaviour. There is still hope they wont get coal this year. Photo: Alfred (Alfie) was not harmed in the making of this photo Santa Paws is definitely spoiling him on his first Christmas!

Tips on Keeping Your Pets Safe from Tick-Borne Diseases Meet Liza, A rescue who was tested positive for Lyme Disease and is now Negative, happy and healthy! She is on monthly preventative and vaccinated so she can continue to enjoy her hikes in the woods. 1) Know which season is tick season: Most of our pets are treated during the summer months, With Autumn in full swing and Winter looming we still can see active ticks. Typically we see a Bloom of Ticks in the fall includi...ng warmer Winter days. If you are active outdoors with your furry friends no matter the season we have what you need to keep them safe all year round! 2) Know the lay of the land: Ticks prefer dense vegetation. They are found on the ground but enjoy crawling up on the tips of tall grasses and shrubs. This is the perfect vantage point for them to gracefully fall onto you or your furry friends as you pass them by. Avoiding areas with tall grass can help reduce exposure. 3) Using Tick prevention products: There are a variety of options to suit the needs of Owners and pets alike! Feel free to reach out to us so we can help you find the best match to keep you protected while you enjoy the great outdoors. 4) Play the 'Brad Paisley' song and "Check for Tick": After your enjoyable outdoor excursion make a point to pat your dog down. Ticks tend to be found around the neck, ears and paws as this is the warmest spot for them. 5) Remove Ticks Promptly and Properly: Did you know there is a "Tick Twister" that can help with proper removal! The twister is the best and safest way to remove, making sure the entire tick is removed the first time. Occasionally, if not removed properly, it can lead to infection of the area. 6) Confirm the Type of tick: The days of mailing them in have upgraded, we now have an app for that! Confirm the type of ticks at https://www.etick.ca/en. By submitting a photo of your removed tick they can identify the species and track locations. 7) Consider the Lyme Vaccine: For those pets at higher risk (hunting, rescue etc), there is a Vaccine to further protect against the Tick-Borne Diseases. It is still recommended to continue with Monthly Tick prevention as well. 8) Know the Symptoms: Rest assured that the majority of dogs exposed to ticks never develop a tick-borne disease. But for those who do, early recognition of symptoms, quickly arriving at a diagnosis, and prompt treatment by your veterinarian enhance the likelihood of a positive outcome. www.pethealthnetwork.com Contact us with any questions

Trick or treat smell my feet Give me something good to eat Our Clinic cat Meeko likes to pose when treats are behind the camera, How about your furry friend(s)? Share your Babies costume in the comments below! This Halloween is a special one, lets make sure it is also a safe one for our fur babies! Here are some tips to make it not so scary! 1) Do Not feed your pets Halloween candy, especially if it contains chocolate or xylitol (a common sugar substitute found in s...ugar-free candies and gum); 2) Make sure your pet is properly identified (microchip, collar and ID tag) in case s/he escapes through the open door while you're distracted with trick-or-treaters; 3) Keep lit candles and jack-o-lanterns out of reach of pets; If you plan to put a costume on your pet, make sure it fits properly and is comfortable, doesn't have any pieces that can easily be chewed off, and doesn't interfere with your pet's sight, hearing, breathing, opening its mouth, or moving. Take time to get your pet accustomed to the costume before Halloween, and never leave your pet unsupervised while he/she is wearing a costume; 4) Keep glow sticks and glow jewellery away from your pets. Although the liquid in these products isn't likely toxic, it tastes really bad and makes pets salivate excessively and act strangely; 5) If your pet is wary of strangers or has a tendency to bite, put him/her in another room during trick-or-treating hours or provide him/her with a safe hiding place; 6) Keep your pet inside. Happy Hallow's Eve Eve Everyone! https://www.avma.org/ (facts found here)

On the 4th day of Christmas my Vet gave to me: A way to keep the cat out of the tree! The dreaded task of making your tree last the holiday season. There is no doubt our kitties love them and so do we! Here is how to enjoy both this season. ... Place a play pen around it Double sided tape fence- place around the base on the floor as a perimeter. Citrus slices in a mesh bag hanging from the bottom bows (cats are repelled by the smell) Wintergreen or Peppermint around/on tree **Make sure it is not easily ingested as essential oils are very concentrated Mount tree to the ceiling Have a separate "Cat Tree" that is for them to play on. Cats will have the desire to explore and go up. Offering alternative as well as a combination of deterrents will help you both make a more enjoyable holiday season.
