Today's Sunday Styling is s lovely combined weave, navy blue and silvery white swirl pattern. It reminds of Van Gough Starry Nights. It has an interesting texture and is lightweight. Hope you enjoy! Konnichiwa everyone, hope your Sunday is going to be a good one. Lovely weather on the Island so far, a bit of sun and very mild for the end of January! Already! Spring will be here before we know it! This Sunday styling is also new to the Studio (from Japan) a lighter weight synthetic fiber with a graphic purple and gold leaf swirl pattern. The inside lining on the bottom half of the Kimono is a beautiful purple with gold leaf flecks. So modern looking and pretty. The Studio is open today from 12:00 - 5:00. Arigato!

Konnichiwa everyone. I know it isn't even near Spring. This lovely Spring / Summer Kimono is a new arrival to the Studio so I just had to share a little brightness for this Sunday Styling. I love how the Sakura pattern Obi matches the Kimono so well, This Kimono is synthetic, so it is washable, on a gentle cycle and hang to dry. This would make sweet robe, very cheery. Hope you enjoy. Konnichiwa, and Happy New Year everyone. I hope this holiday season wasn't a stressful one. Mine was very quiet and quite enjoyable. This year I plan to learn how to tie a Fukuro Obi. I have several of these wider Obi's in stock, and to be perfectly honest I've been avoiding them until now. This will certainly be one of my New Year's challenges! These Obi are 12' wide and anywhere from 11'6" to 14'8" feet long! Wish me luck! I will be posting more Sunday stylings, hopefully including the proper tying of a Fukuro Obi. Konnichiwa everyone! Hope you're having a good day so far. The weather on the Island is stellar today. Sunny and warm. It's hard to believe it's November 1st today! This Sunday's styling is an elegant combination of patterns in black white and silver. The long Kimono is Vintage-Antique. I'm guessing 50's-60's, judging by the linen lining. It's a lovey silk crepe. The sweet black and white fern leaf patterned Dochu-gi is new to the studio and super cute. Probably late 60's early 70's. Unlike the Hoari Jacket this one does up with ties off to the side. Cute and comfortable. The Studio is open 12:00 to 5:00 today. Arigato!

A very strange Sunday morning on the Island and in our province today. Such a thick haze. I haven't put the racks outside today just in case the smoke gets worse today as predicted . Don't want to risk damaging the Kimonos! The shop is open today 12:00-5:00 Arigato.

I wanted to share this video. I really like watching this Japanese lady named TonTon demonstrate how to put on a traditional Kimono. Although it is in Japanese you'll get the idea easily enough. Enjoy. Arigato

Konnichiwa everyone. Hope all of you are well and having a good summer. It seemed very short this year! However I must admit September is my absolute favorite month of the year! I love how the light and the air changes. Nothing like a beautiful September day. So with that in mind This will probably be the last Yukata styling for the season. I used the same Yukata as last week. The colors are perfect for a fall transition. This pre tied Obi is a very easy to use. All you have to do wrap the main sash around your waist, tie it off. Then at the back of the Obi you slide the bow in, it's on a U shaped wire, with a tie that ties around your waist. Easy peasy! I like the bight orange Obi Jime, and the little prayer pouch with it's orange tones. Gets me thinking fall! The studio is open today 12:00-5:00. Have a great day. Arigato!

In keeping with the heat, today's styling is another lovely summer Yukata. I love this fresh pattern with the grass green Obi so fresh and cool looking. The antique Obijime is the perfect accessory for this Yukata. Having fun playing with different creative ways to tie the Obi. They are endless! Konnichiwa everyone. Happy Sunday hope it's sunny where you are. It's a lovely day on Vancouver Island today. A little different today, instead of a styling I'm promoting the beautiful Japanese incense I've brought to the Studio. This incense is made by Soyeido in Kyoto Japan using 300 year old family exclusive recipes. These sticks are pure essense, no wooden support . All natural no synthetic fragrance or oils. Burn time is approx. 30 minutes. Low smoke and ash with a clear fresh scent. My absolute favorite. The scent is not overpowering. For today's Sunday styling I used the same Yukata as last week, but changed up the accessories, and added a beautiful Antique Hoari jacket from the 1940"s (I'm in love). This is a long jacket, with deep sleeves. An amazing light weight orchid purple silk with a bit of hand tied and dyed Shibori detailing. Konnichiwa everyone with the re-opening of the shop I am feeling very inspired to do Sunday Styling's again. Here is today's. A lovely blue Iro-Tomsode Kimono. Meaning one solid colour with a pattern in the weave of the silk. This Kimono has a wave pattern, with a two tone effect. So... pretty. .And I choose this sweet kitty cat Obi. You would never wear this combination in traditional dressing. I know this Obi is to casual for this Kimono. However I like to play and style with non-traditional combinations, just for fun and please the eye. Enjoy. Arigato!

One person in the shop at a time, as the shop is very small. There will be racks outside for browsing as well. Konnichiwa everyone. Hoping all are doing well, and hanging in there. Weird days I know. So I thought I would do a cheer me up styling today. With and without the Prayer Pouch. I love this combination so bright and cheerful. This lovely Silk Haori is new to the studio. It has lovely deep sleeves and is longer than most Haori Jackets. Perfect for a tall girl. This garment is made with such a beautiful silk, even the lining is cheerful! I would say the size would be equivalent to a large medium. Enjoy. Konnichiwa. Hope everyone is safe and healthy this Easter long week-end. The little Kimono shop has been closed for a few weeks now. Being such a tiny space and can hardly keep 6' away from myself in there! So, I know I haven't posted a styling for quite a while now. But I feel we could all use a pretty distraction from all of the craziness going on right now. Today I chose this adorable Kitty Cat Obi, with the little bird brooch. With the lovely sky blue of the Iro Tomesode Kimono, meaning all one colour except black, and the pattern is weaved in the fabric. The lime green and pale blue Obi pattern, go very well together. I hope you've enjoyed this little distraction. Sadly I have no idea when the Studio will be able to re-open. Until then be safe and healthy.

Konnichiwa everyone. It's been a while since I've done a Kimono styling. Life as a Floral Designer has been very busy, with Valentine's Day and all. Today in honor of February, I chose this lovely red wool full length Kimono. There is a lovely Hoari Jacket to match! This red is a very pretty color that goes well with many skin tones. Japanese wool is amazingly warm even though it is not heavy. Customers are always surprised when I point out the wool garments. We still have several lovely wool Hoari jackets in stock. Happy New Year from The Silk Room Studio everyone! Wishing all of you a very healthy, happy and prosperous 2020. I wanted to start the New Year off with this lovely wool blend Kimono for winter. I love the simplicity of the small cross pattern. I like the red accents with the collar and Obi. And I'm really happy how the tie on the Obi worked out. My own creation. There are hundreds of ways to tie the Obi. Experiment with your own, and have some fun trying new ways. Arigato (thank-you) for your continued support over the last year.
