Twelfth Day of Christmas for Your Toddler A Very-Special Gifts Congratulations, you have made it to the end of the 12 days of Christmas and Merry Christmas to all. The gifts during the past 12 days are based on the developmental needs a toddler has at various times during this age group. Some are physical gifts (like puzzles, the cleaning set, books and puzzles) while others are other gifts a parent bestows upon their child (like self-feeding, drinking from an open cup) ...and others are journeys to be completed together (like toilet-learning, self-feeding, self-dressing and playing wining/losing games). All of these gifts identify skills that your toddler is acquiring at their own pace. Today’s gift is the gift of time. Time with your toddler. By incorporating some of, or all of these gifts, your child will be more and more independent each day, more self-confident each day, more emotionally-regulated each day and this will result in fewer moments of frustration, fewer tears and certainly fewer tantrums as your child is becoming confident, capable and independent. Enjoy this time that you have with your toddler as these moments are fleeting and children grow-up so fast. By encouraging independence, you are not removing yourself from his/her lives, you are giving them the respect they deserve and you will receive their warmth and love in so many positive ways as a result of the developed independence. Once again, thank-you for following these 12 Days of Christmas For Your Toddler and congratulations of making the first of many steps. Things to remember include the Toddler’s Motto Help me do it by myself. And Never help a child with a task at which he feels successful. Keeping these two phrases in mind will help your child become a confident, independent and self-actualized child which should be a goal for every parent. Merry Christmas!!
