At long last we’re in the balmy single-digit negatives! This calls for scoops!
Even though the year’s still new, we’re already hard at work brainstorming and testing flavours for the whole year ahead. So now’s the time to let us know! Which past flavours do you want to see back this year? What are you hoping we create?
This week we had to throw the world’s saddest peace out in the direction of @izzyboot, who has been our manager at Kind for the last year and a half. Izzy’s off on new adventures, and oh, how she’ll be missed. During her time with us she completely elevated our shops and brought a ton (TON) of positivity to our team amid a challenging couple of years. She’s Cold Brew Coffee’s biggest fan, and we’re HER biggest fan. See you soon, pal!
LEMON CLOUD You’ve got to try this bright sunshiny number, one of our most popular flavours of all time. Close your eyes while you eat it and you may even feel like you’re not in the middle of an absolute frozen tundra.
Swipe for a piece of poetry perfect for this winter weather, one of six poems curated by our friends at @glassbookshop. These short winter-themed poems can be found on pints of rotating flavours and feature works by local writers. Jessica Johns is a nehiyaw aunty with English-Irish ancestry and a member of Sucker Creek First Nation in Treaty 8 territory in Northern Alberta. Her short story Bad Cree won the 2020 Writers’ Trust Journey Prize and her novel of the same name will be released in January 2023 with HarperCollins.
This month we’ve brought back two of our most asked-about rotating flavours, Disco Cookie Dough and Lemon Cloud. These two flavours bright, cheerful and once you’ve tried them they live permanently in the back of your mind. To round it out, we’ve added new vegan (and gluten-free!) offering, London Fog, made with Earl Grey tea and real vanilla bean. As always, you can grab these flavours all through the month!
Our iconic Milk Chocolate Mini Egg us made with a lush milk chocolate base packed with everyone’s favourite candy-coated chocolate. Easter may be over, but Mini Egg is here all month long
It’s Earth Day! Did you know that our Kind cups are fully compostable, along with our spoons and napkins? Each shop has a large green compost bin that sits outside, and all cups, spoons, napkins and food waste from our shop can go into it. Our bins are picked up throughout the week and the waste is turned into healthy soil. It’s one small way that we reduce our environmental footprint - and we all know, the little things add up! #loveyourmother
What a weekend! Thanks to all who stopped in for scoops, pints and pup treats. All signs point to an excellent summer ahead.

New shop, new scoop holders! These beautiful babies were designed and crafted with Canadian marble and terrazzo by local maker @ryspot. Ryan is a concrete wizard who creates furniture, home goods and those beautiful Edmonton bricks you’ve probably spotted out in the world. His wares will be at the upcoming @theroyalbison online craft fair, along with goods by a ton of other fantastic artists and makers. #yeg

Kind Highlands is open! Putting together this space has been a true labour of love, and a project that we’ve had on deck for over a year. Kind Ice Cream and Glass Bookshop are teaming up to give you a taste of some great local writing. 6 Edmonton poetsEmily Riddle, Makda Mulatu, Isabel Yang, Grayson Thate, Matthew James Weigel, and Edmonton’s Youth Poet Laureate Timiro Mohamedhave each lent a piece to this project. These poets write about love, the body, the river, those things that connect us during these pandemic times. While we’re at home, counting down the days or weeks or months until we receive our vaccines, reaching for comfort in a pint of ice cream, read the poems on the side of your pint container. These stickers are windows through which we can reach back for one another. Friends, it’s been quite the year. At Kind, our aim is to make ice cream that brings you comfort and solace. This month’s flavours are a celebration of some of the most nostalgic, comforting foods in our lives: introducing our April Condiment Series! Heinz Swirl, Thousand Island, and vegan Relish Sorbet. Grab a spoon (or a knife!) and get comfy.

Joining up with legendary Edmonton coffee roasters @rogue_wave_coffee for our Vegan Espresso Flake flavour is a dream. Their tasting bar is a go-to Edmonton gem and they carry the most beautiful coffee making supplies. For this flavour, we use their Nensebo Suke roast and add freckles of dark chocolate. Millions of them. We hope you love it as much as we do!
Annnd we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming (SCOOPS)! As an added bonus, we’re scooping a secret batch of Charms that we set aside just for today. Come early if you want to luck out!

For our new Whisky Hazelnut Brittle seasonal jam, we used Northern Eyes Whisky from our friends at @hansendistillery, another Edmonton-based, family-run business. Northern Eyes Whisky is crisp and spicy, with notes of pear, caramel and pepper, making it a perfect compliment the chocolate ganache and hazelnut brittle that this flavour is packed with.
