"Save Fairy Creek and the last southern old growth!" . On the weekend during some essential travel to Vancouver Island to help deal with a family members estate, we made a journey out to Port Renfrew to see Avatar Grove and the fairy creek blockade. To say these trees and the forests around them are awe inspiring, really doesn't do them justice. . Before starting down the path of making instruments, I was involved with trees in almost every job I had. I was a landscaper, wo...rked on a Bonsai farm, became an ISA certified arborist doing complex urban tree care, and finally, a tree planter going all over BC and Alberta. I know trees. I love trees...but now the trees are speaking. They. Need. Us. . I have always been on the side of conservation, and have done what I can to raise awareness and educate people about the natural world, and the marvels that surround us. Frankly it is absolute insanity to consider cutting down these ancient trees, as they are now the white rhino equivelant of the arboreal kingdom. . In Sudan, where the last White Rhino died in 2018, it had a contingent of armed guards to protect it from poaching, 24/7. I often wonder if this is what it will take to protect these dwindling natural relics from a government that does not seem to care one iota about their preservation. Violence is never the answer, but when voices aren't heard, and the will of the public is not taken into consideration, direct action becomes the only route forward. . I understand logging is necessary for the modern world as my father was a logger, and his work gave us food shelter and a home on the West coast. However I would not call this unethical harvest "logging", I would call it poaching. It is morally reprehensible and a crime against the world to bring harm to these ancient trees, the last of their kind. Trees of such size and granduer we will most likely never see them again on earth unless our forestry policies and public drastically changes...help save them while we can. .
