Today was my first training session with Willow. I began her training with a girth rope. Once she masters the girth rope we move on to a neck rope then finally I attach the rope to the halter. I prefer starting halter training this way because you better able to keep a foal out of trouble using this method. Foals will sometimes go over backwards as a confused/fearful response when they experience pressure on their heads for the first time. The trick is to never make them feel... trapped and to always allow them to find the right "open door" to relieve pressure. Never increase pressure and keep it steady followed by an immediate release for the correct response. Time and patience is the key to increasing their confidence and setting them up for a successful future. Here she is taking a milk break and wearing a halter for the first time. To see future pictures and video stay tuned!
