Filing due dates for the 2019 tax return COVID-19: Tax filing and payment deadlines for 2019 The deadline for individuals to file is extended to June 1, 2020 and the deadline to pay amounts owed is extended to September 1, 2020. Note: some taxpayers may have received a 2019 Notice of Assessment that says the deadline for payment is April 30, 2020, which is incorrect.... Your return for 2019 has to be filed on or before June 1, 2020. Self-employed persons If you or your spouse or common-law partner carried on a business in 2019 (other than a business whose expenditures are primarily in connection with a tax shelter), your return for 2019 has to be filed on or before June 15, 2020. However, if you have a balance owing for 2019, you have to pay it on or before August 31, 2020. For more information on how to make your payment, see Make a payment. Exception to the due date of your return When the due date falls on a Saturday, a Sunday, or a public holiday recognized by the CRA, your return is considered on time if the CRA receives it or it is postmarked on the next business day. For more information, see Important dates for Individuals.
