Morning Announcements for the Week of April 19, 2021 https://drive.google.com//1oVao_zGsNcBpSXHyXPtObUohE/view

King Albert Public School 05.05.2021

REMINDER: Monday will be an asynchronous learning day for students. Classroom teams will be contacting all families in the morning (after we meet as a staff at 8:50) to talk through remote learning, the needs of your family, and arranging for technology pick up as needed. We will commence live synchronous learning on Tuesday. It would be a good idea to log on to remote learning platforms (Google Classroom, SeeSaw) on Monday to make sure it all works before classes commence on Tuesday. Given that teachers will be busy teaching online, Mr Burke will be at the school to offer tech support for those struggling to log in at 705-324-3702.

King Albert families, as you know all elementary students across Ontario are participating in virtual learning after the spring break commencing Monday, April 19, 2021. Much like the last closure, student learning will be a combination of live lessons and videos with teacher-led whole class and/or small group instruction, group work, guided instruction, or 1:1 conferencing with the teacher. There will be normal lunch breaks from 10:30 - 11:10 and 12:50 - 1:30 with the day ending at 3:10 for all students. For Monday, April 19, 2021, we will post asynchronous learning materials for students to engage in while we spend the day connecting with individual families to ensure we have the technology and connections needed for all families in place.

The Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, has declared a third provincial emergency and stay-at-home order. Effective April 8, the government is issuing a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, as outlined in the provincial news release. This order and other new and existing public health restrictions are in response to the rapid increase in COVID-19 transmission, the threat on th...e province’s hospital system capacity, and the increasing risks posed to the public by COVID-19 variants. During the stay-at-home order, all Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) elementary and secondary schools will remain open to staff and students, and in-person learning will continue All COVID-19 information and updates can be found at tldsb.ca/covid19/.

Parent teacher interview are occurring this evening. The times for your interviews were posted on your child’s progress report envelope. Our teachers will call you at the scheduled time, however not from our school number as they’ll be using Google Meets to make these calls. Parents who wish to have an opportunity to meet with Mrs Stagg (FSL/Arts), Mrs Walker (SERT) or Mr Burke should call the office to book a time. Also, a friendly reminder that Friday is a PD day.

Many students are bringing toys to school daily and making statements that they need these toys as fidgets. Our return to school guidelines require that toys NOT come to school. Tools that are essential for learning will have been agreed to by home and school teams in conversations and documented in the IEP. Please reinforce this at home by having a conversation with your children about the different between toys and tools for learning.

Families, this is a reminder that pets are not permitted on school grounds. This means they should be kept away from the school and, if necessary for them to be brought, they need to stay on the sidewalk.

Thursday afternoon, the province released a revised screener for school attendance that parents are expected to use before their children attend school daily. The screener can be found at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ My child has woken up not feeling well, what do I do? If you notice that your child has new or worsening symptoms, what you do depends on the symptom and how usual they are for your child. ... If your child has new or worsening: Fever/chills Cough Shortness of breath Decreased or loss of smell or taste Your child should isolate immediately and you should contact your child’s health provider for further advice or assessment. The health care provider can help you determine whether the symptoms are related to another non-COVID-19 condition, or if they should get tested for COVID-19. If your child has ONE new or worsening symptom (that is not related to a known cause or condition) that include: Sore throat Stuffy nose/runny nose Headache Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea Fatigue/lethargy/muscle aches/malaise Your child should stay home for 24 hours to be monitored to see whether the symptoms get better or worse. Our King Albert students are super excited to be back in school again! As part of the Lindsay Exhibition - our students want to show you who they are behind their masks through the arts. The whole school took part in the face and mask art mural using a variety of colours and 3D materials. The older students added adjectives in English and French to describe their unique personalities. Thank you Mrs. Stagg for leading this great piece!

What a great first official day back to school on Friday, September 18. It was such a wonderful feeling to see all of our students back together again demonstrating the success of our staggered start. Sure, we're still learning which doors to enter through (hint: not the main door unless you're late or in Kindergarten) but our masks are on, we're washing our hands, and distancing whenever possible. We are Knights - we keep each other safe - we believe we can achieve - we set... high goals and achieve them - we all belong - King Albert is our home. **note - this video of our school song was recorded pre-COVID** https://vimeo.com/318847143#t=18s

Great community support for families looking ahead to Christmas.

King Albert Public School 28.04.2020

Good Afternoon King Albert Families Thank you all for being such an understanding school community as we finished the first week of back to school this year. I know many of you have wonderings, concerns, and anxieties about sending your children back to school amid a global pandemic. Our first week was a rousing success and we thank you all for your support as we work through this staggered start up. Below is an update on a few items as we begin Week 2 of our Return to Schoo...l Plan. Late Arrivals: This morning we had a dozen students arrive after between 8:50 and 9:00am. It is critical students are at school on time or, if they're going to be late, be late after 9:15. We have set up 8:50 - 9:15 as special circumstances arrival times for students who need additional measures in place to ensure a safe arrival with no cross-cohort contact. This is complicated when students and families are crowding the entrance of the school due to being late. This will become more critical as we approach Friday as this will be the first day with all students in attendance. Medical Management: If your child has a prevalent medical condition for which we need to be aware of, please call the school and advise Mrs. Wright as soon as possible (asthma, allergies, other issues requiring medication administration during the day). TLDSB Return to School Commitment Form If you have not already, please complete the TLDSB Return to School Commitment form by September 18, 2020. Parent Council Invitation - 2020-21. https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSeBYIJV6RNo5Ywjiu/viewform All KAPS parents are invited to participate in our Parent Council, which will occur virtually this year. See this letter for more details on how to sign up. https://kap.tldsb.on.ca//KAPS-Letterhead-Parent-Council-Le

King Albert Public School is lowering our flag September 11-14 to half-mast in memory of those who have lost their lives through acts of terror in Canada and around the world. This day pays tribute to the firefighters who risk their lives to keep Canadians safe. The second Sunday in September of each year has been designated since 2017 in memory of firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. https://kap.tldsb.on.ca//half-mast-notice-firefighters-na/

Dear Knight's Families; Many of the families who opted for learning at home this fall have been calling the school asking for details and timelines for their children's learning. Sadly, we have been less than helpful with information. This evening parents should have received an update about the Virutal Learning Elementary School. If you did not receive this message, we have included it below: [ 86 more words ] https://kap.tldsb.on.ca//an-update-on-virtual-learning-el/

Our first day on Tuesday was such a joyous occasion. New students got to meet some new friends and those returning were able to reconnect and settle in to new routines. Our students demonstrated their resilience and flexibility. Staff will continue to tweak and refine our back to school plans as the first day of school continues throughout this week.

Return to School - Daily Health Check & Students Being Sent Home Ill As part of our return to school plan, it is critical that all guardians understand the importance of the Daily Health Check and keeping students away from school if they exhibit any COVID-like symptoms (see the daily health check). All students, staff, and essential visitors who have any of the symptoms persisting for more than a few hours, and for whom the symptom(s) is new and not related to seasonal alle...rgies or pre-existing medical conditions, must stay home, and should be tested for COVID-19 if advised to do so by a medical professional. Guardians are to call the school and advise of the absence as per our usual Safe Arrival procedure. Students/staff who have COVID-like symptoms where COVID is not suspected (or where there has been a negative test result), may return to school when symptom free for 24 hours. https://www.tldsb.ca//2020/09/TLDSB-Daily-Health-Assessmen

Return to School: Masking Tips - Knowing that masking is mandatory for all students while they are at school (unless distancing at recess, during outdoor learning or eating lunch), it would be helpful for your child to continue practicing wearing a mask for gradually increasing intervals over the next few weeks. Tip: Practice wearing masks as a family while engaging in a shared enjoyable activity. Watching your child's favourite tv show together while wearing masks is a great first place to start. Celebrate the duration of time they keep the mask on and set a goal for increasing that time the next day. Every little step and celebration leads to learning a new skill.

August 28, 2020 This afternoon Mr. Burke hosted a Facebook live event to walk through the many changes that are being enacted at our school to ensure a safe restart for all staff and students. The event will be left on our Facebook page for the next week so parents can take a look when they have time. Mr. Burke has also created a Return to School Newsletter with school specific details for families to review and it is available here. Return to School: What Happens if a Child is Ill at School? Before every school day, all families must complete the "Daily Health Assessment" found in the Return to School Plan for TLDSB Families. If the answer to any of the questions (which list the symptoms of COVID-19) is "yes", then parents/guardians are not to send their child to school. If a situation arises where a student develops COVID-19 symptoms while at school, they will be immediately separated from others in a ...designated health room and parents/guardians will be asked to make arrangements for the child to be picked up and taken to their healthcare provider or assessment centre. All schools will follow the COVID-19 outbreak protocol, still in development. Parents/guardians need to be assured that any potential illness of their child is not seen as a child welfare issue, contrary to what is being said within the local community. Please see the attached one-pager from page 12 of the TLDSB Return to School Plan for Families for more.
