FREE SCREENING of the comedy hit MENTEUR (COMPULSIVE LIAR) - OCTOBER 17th! Our pals at ACFOMI are going digital for their annual Franco-Foire this season. In partnership, KCFF/ACFOMI will be presenting Quebec’s top grossing film of 2019-2020, the comedy hit MENTEUR! This film had sold out two screenings at KCFF20 prior to our cancellation this year so, should be in high demand. You can watch MENTEUR for free on Saturday October 17. All the viewing details and instruct...ions will be available then. https://kingcanfilmfest.com/2020/10/09/menteur/ Bon cinema! MENTEUR continues the hot streak of crowdpleasers by writer-director Émile Gaudreault and actor and comedian Louis-José Houde, the team whose earlier box-office champ FATHER AND GUNS closed KCFF in 2010. Houde stars as Simon, a compulsive liar whose truth-stretching ways have unintended effects when his lies mysteriously gain the power to re-shape reality. Along with his hapless brother Phil played by the hilarious Antoine Bertrand Simon must act fast to undo the damage amid a series of increasingly global calamities. Thankfully, that’s all good news for audiences who’ll appreciate MENTEUR’s madcap humour and big heart. KCFF is excited to partner with our friends at ACFOMI in presenting the film KUESSIPAN! The digital screening will be available all day September 25 until 5pm on September 26 free of charge to the first 200 viewers! We’ll have the direct link to the film on our website, so check back then to watch. This screening is part of ACFOMI’s Franco-Ontarian Day (La journée des franco-ontariens et franco-ontariennes). https://kingcanfilmfest.com//free-screening-of-kuessipan-/ A...dapted from Naomi Fontaine’s award-winning novel by the writer and director Myriam Verreault, this moving drama tells the stories of two young Innu women whose close bond is affected by their diverging life paths. While the sensitive and artistic nature of Mikuan (Sharon Fontaine-Ishpatao) leads her in one direction, the personal troubles of her best friend Shaniss (Yamie Grégoire) threaten to trap her in cycles that are all too pervasive in northern communities like theirs. A top prizewinner at the Quebec City film festival, KUESSIPAN marks a compelling shift into feature filmmaking by Verreault after several documentaries that share her new movie’s keen sympathy for the lives of young people. Hey Kingston filmmakers - check this out DOC Institute is bringing back our Intro to DOC Producing (formerly Savvy Producer) to Ontario filmmakers. We are pleased to present this series in an online format for the first time, for free - making it more accessible than ever before. This program is a great refresher for new and emerging producers, filmmakers looking to refresh producing basics, and individuals transitioning into the documentary industry. This series will be le...d by arts educator Chanda Chevannes and will support new and emerging filmmakers towards a better understanding of how to get their documentary films funded, made, and seen. Each of these 90-minute sessions will offer an overview of best practices for a specific aspect of documentary filmmaking. These sessions will focus on introducing participants to local resources - including our festival partners in each area, respectively - and facilitating networking and community-building between filmmakers. https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/intro-to-doc-producing-tickets- DOC Ontario Visit Kingston Kingston Arts Council
