Dear King Edward Parents/Guardians, Our hope is that everyone is doing well and staying safe. Last week, we were so pleased to welcome approximately 30 students to our school for the beginning of the second quadmester. The students have settled in very well and they have adjusted to the classroom routines and to the new safety procedures and protocols that we have implemented to keep everyone safe while at school. We are also pleased to see that all students continue to be en...gaged and focused on the learning opportunities being provided by our Staff. Thank you to our dedicated Staff for everything that you do to support our students with their learning. Our hope is that the King Edward students who are participating in either the Online Virtual learning or Correspondence learning, are progressing very well with the learning opportunities being provided by the Virtual Staff. Best wishes to the students who recently switched from in person learning to online and/or correspondence learning. Please know that whether your child is participating in online learning, correspondence learning or in person learning, we remain one school community. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or if you just want to check in with us. We welcome your phone calls/ Edsby messages, and it is our pleasure to keep in touch with you. We wanted to let you know that students will be receiving their progress reports today. Due to COVID restrictions, we will not be having parent-teacher interviews but we believe in open, ongoing, and productive communication. If you have a question or concern, please feel free to call the school to speak to the teacher or send an Edsby message. As part of our Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week, we ask that students wear a pink shirt on Wednesday, November 18th. It's not officially Pink Shirt Day, but the pink shirt has always been a symbol of kindness, inclusion and friendship. If your child does not have a pink shirt, they can always wear their Lions gear! The Spirit Week ideas that we will be following this week include: Tuesday Tie Dye day Wednesday Pink Shirt day Thursday Crazy Socks day Friday Rainbow day Thank you for your continued support, care, kindness and partnership that you provide to our students and staff. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Please continue to stay well and stay safe. Wishing you a wonderful day and a terrific week! Sincerely, Teresa Iandolo Paul Campeau

King Edward families: the GECDSB has posted its plan for school re-opening. The Board has 3 different scenarios, but the action plan for September is Model 1, in which K-8 schools like KE will welcome students 5 days a week. Students will stay with a single cohort of peers the entire day, including recess & lunch. The full curriculum will be taught, and face masks will be mandatory for Grade 4 & up. The plan states that the GECDSB is exploring the use of masks for all studen...ts, however, it also "recognizes that masks may not be tolerated by those with underlying health issues or beliefs. Please contact your school principal if this is a concern for your child." The plan includes detailed outlines for cleaning and transportation: please access it below. Families will be asked THIS WEEK to let the Board know whether they plan to send their students to school f2f or sign on for remote learning from home. Students who start remotely will be able to rejoin f2f at set times later in the year. The survey to communicate your plans to the Board has not yet been released: we will post it as soon as it is. There is, separately, a petition from the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario that is currently open for signatures, asking for increased funding and safety measures for all return to school plans, if families are interested in exploring that communication: https://www.buildingbetterschools.ca/back_to_school There is no easy answer right now, for any family: please take time to read the plans and information available and we'll keep sharing information as it emerges. :)

Dear King Edward Parents/Guardians, Our hope is that everyone is doing well, staying safe and enjoying the beautiful weather. This week, the King Edward Staff have spent some time gathering and organizing our students’ belongings from their desks and lockers. Special thanks to the Staff, for kindly taking the time to collect and organize our students’ belongings. Beginning next week, we will be inviting parents to come to the school to pick up your child/children’s belongings.... You will receive a telephone message, providing the day and time (eg. 9:00 1:00 p.m.) that you will be able to come to the school to retrieve your child/ren’s belongings. Listed below is the schedule that we hope to follow for distribution next week. Monday, June 8th from 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. for families with surnames beginning with the letters A through K. Wednesday, June 10th from 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. for families with surnames beginning with the letters L though Z. On the days listed above, we will facilitate a curbside pickup at the Bus Bay (Cataraqui) and at the front entrance on Chilver Road. Parents, our hope is that when you come to the school to retrieve your children’s items that you please take the time to return any Library books and textbooks that may be at your home. Please have your children locate the Library books and textbooks prior to coming to the school to retrieve your children’s items. We will not be collecting the Board technology at this time. In order to facilitate the distribution of our students’ belongings safely, smoothly and following the rules of social distancing, we would like to suggest the following procedures: 1. A staff member will meet you on the corner of Niagara and Chilver and then direct you to either the Bus bay or the front entrance on Chilver. Please come from the corner of Niagara and Chilver and head north toward Cataraqui. 2. Please pull up to the school (either the Bus bay or the front entrance) and we will place your child’s belongings on a table for you to retrieve. 3. We will have a table set up (at both locations) for the Library books and textbooks that are returned to the school. Our hope is that you will make every effort to come to the school on the day and time assigned to retrieve your child’s belongings. Thank you parents, for your continued support and kindness as we ensure that all of our students’ items are returned in a safe and organized manner. We appreciate everything that you do to support our students and staff. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions regarding this plan for distribution of our students’ belongings. Sincerely, Teresa Iandolo Paul Campeau

Dear King Edward Parents/Guardians, Our hope is that everyone continues to be safe and healthy. We are so pleased that the weather has been so beautiful these past few days making it feel more like Spring has arrived. Recently, it was announced that schools will not be reopening at this time and that distance learning will continue throughout the month of June. The King Edward Staff continue to focus on providing flexible, accessible and meaningful learning opportunities for ...our students. Our staff are so incredibly proud of our students for their perseverance and for the dedication that they put forward daily as they engage in online learning. Mr. Campeau and I are extremely grateful and proud of our school community for the ongoing support and kindness that you share with us. We are so happy to let you know that the Lexia/Power Up licenses have been extended through to August 31st. When we received the licenses, we were initially told that they would be available until June 29th. The extension until the end of the summer is fantastic news because it means that our students will be able to continue with their Lexia/Power UP learning throughout the summer months. We are presently making plans to celebrate our Grade 8 students by producing a Graduation broadcast video. We are excited to honour our students, the King Edward class of 2020, and to offer our support as they prepare for a new chapter of their educational career. While online learning will continue until the end of the school year, we are presently making a plan to have parents come to the school to obtain their child/children’s belongings. More information regarding the plan will be communicated with you in the coming week. Thank you parents, for your continued support, care, kindness and partnership that you provide to our students and staff with the online learning. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Please continue to stay well and stay safe. Sincerely, Mrs. Teresa Iandolo Mr. Paul Campeau

For the grades 4, 5, & 6 teachers who might be interested in contributing to a research study (& getting a $50 gift card!) "We are recruiting grade 4, 5 and 6 teachers working in publicly funded schools in Ontario to participate in a research study focused on digital equity in our province. I am sharing here because we especially need to hear from teachers who work in south-western Ontario and northern Ontario. Their voices are essential, but so far, we don't have enough participants from these regions of the province. If you can help get the word out by sharing, we would appreciate it very much. Participation involves a 45-60 minute interview with a research team member (online). Every participant receives a $50 Amazon.ca gift card as a thank you." from our leadership :) April 19, 2020, Dear King Edward Parents/Guardians,... As we move forward with distance learning, our hope is to check in with our King Edward School community on a regular basis to share information with you. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been very pleased and encouraged to know that our school community is doing their very best to support our students and staff as we embrace online learning and we continue to move forward together. We are excited to share that since the onset of distance learning, our staff have been engaging in professional learning opportunities provided by the GECDSB that include, Lexia/Power Up webinars, ASD learning and Boardmaker online sessions. Many of our staff participated in the webinar provided by the University of Windsor, and led by Dr. Bonnie Stewart and her team. The professional development opportunities have been very positive and informative, providing a lot of good insight and information to our staff as we navigate online learning together and work to ensure that our students are successful and engaged with their learning. We are very pleased with the connections that our staff continue to make with our students and their parents. Our hope is that you have had the opportunity to see the video that was created by Mr. Goertzen and includes our staff sharing beautiful messages of hope, care and kindness with our school community. Special thanks to Mr. Goertzen for creating this video on behalf of our staff. Friday, April 17th, was Mr. David Guthrie’s last day at our school. Mr. Guthrie has done a remarkable job teaching the grade 4/5 class since September 2019. We want to wish Mr. Guthrie the very best in his future teaching assignments. Mrs. Kathy Ly has returned to her grade 4/5 assignment at King Edward School. Welcome Back, Mrs. Ly! Special thanks to our parents and guardians, for everything that you do daily to ensure that our students are engaging and taking the time to visit the learning platform and participating in the lessons/activities provided by the classroom teachers. We also appreciate the engagement by our students, staff and parents, with the weekly ‘Spirit Week’ suggestions. We really enjoy seeing the spirit week pictures posted on Edsby. The pictures have helped us to feel connected and in touch with our school community. Thank you! In closing, we want to let you know that our IT department at the GECDSB is working very hard to respond to the Phase 2 tech requests that have been submitted. Once the technology arrives to our school, you will be notified immediately. Thank you for the support, kindness, care, and partnership that you provide to our students and staff. We miss you so much and we look forward to the time when we can see each other again! Please continue to stay safe. We are in this together and we will get through this together. Sincerely, Teresa Iandolo Paul Campeau
