The proposed rules will require scrap metal dealers to report all transactions involving many common forms of metal including high-theft items like copper wire and catalytic converters to law enforcement by entering the details in a central database. Metal thieves often damage and interfere with critical systems like electrical lines, telecommunications networks and transportation infrastructure in the process of stealing materials. Criminals often strike in isolated areas to avoid detection, which also makes rural Albertans a particular target of thieves and trespassers looking for metal. This truck is not picking up or delivering food. It is our third truck in less than 6 months to have its catalytic converter stolen. This prevents us from helping our neighbors in need. We shouldn't have to say it, but please stop stealing from us.
